Hey all, I haven't had a chance to read back, but I just wanted to let you know that Katie was born on Wednesday by planned section. She was not the 81/2lber they were predicting, but a more petite 6lb 13.5ozs
I don't think I'll do a birth story but will give you a quick run down in that the section went well but my placenta came out in bits. I had a bad reactiion to one of the medications given for the section and ended up shaking uncontrollably for 2 hours after the op and couldn't have skin to skin with Katie during that time.
When that was finally under control the Docs told me that the wall of my womb had tore during the op and that I was now bleeding out and needed to return to theatre under general anaesthetic where they hoped they could repair it, or they would perform a hysterectomy. I was transfused 3 pints during the op and they said they have stitched the tear, now it is a waiting game over the next few weeks to see if I haemorrage again. If I do it will be another trip to hospital and a hysterectomy.
I spent 30 hours in the recovery unit staring at a curtain screen, cared for by my OH who spent the time sat in an uncomfortable chair and catering to mine and Katie's every need. I only got moved to a ward after OH went to see the head of Maternity and complained. Some of the midwives and nurses on the ward I got moved to were absolutely awful with no people skills. After a horrendous night on that ward we asked to see my Consultant to ask if I could be discharged home,as I was supposed to spend another 2 days there. When we discussed my care so far he agreed I'd be better off at home. We got home last night and I am incredibly sleep deprived already after 2 major surgeries within 7 hours and Katie hasn't been feeding or sleeping well because of mucus which is common after a section.
Anyway, after being 1 in 31, then 1 in 7 Katie doesn't have any facial characteristics of Down's and provisional bloods were normal. We get the final results in 2 weeks. If I think about it too much the level of responsibility is overwhelming, so I've found it best to just take the day minute by minute
Good luck to you all, and I'll hopefully be online again soon0 -
Oh Wonder Womble, you really have been through the wars, I hope you are recovering well and the tear heals itself. Glad to hear baby is doing well and you're both home. Massive congratulations to you and OH and love and hugs to little Katie xxxxThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
