can i ask another random question?

Does anyone know if i need to take bottles and milk if i dont breastfeed to the hospital with me? I really want to breastfeed and did last time but with 8 days til my due date i still have no milk or leaking so i am wondering if maybe it wont happen.

In our area the hospital has some special bf status, meaning they strongly encourage bf to the point where they won't really discuss formula, nipple shields, bottles etc. They like you to try to feed before letting you leave, even if it means hand expressing a tiny bit of colostrom and feeding by a pipette thing! Quite full on really...they've also recommended that if we want to bf best not to buy any formula so there is no easy fall back!! So might be worth checking as I know here they wouldn't provide anything!!

Thank you for a lovely welcome and for the book and forum recommendations.

I wish everyone the very best. I've read up to page 402 and will go back, but in the meantime I have a couple of queries that I hope you can help with.

I am still slightly shocked by this pregnancy, now in week 8. My first MW appt is on Friday and I've just got my letter for the first scan... on 6 January. Am happy about this as OH will see bean and know it's for real, though he's enjoying the growing boobs right now!Currently I am wearing an underwired balcony bra, but OH thinks this might not be best. What's the idiot guide to bras in pregnancy?!

Finally, is there anywhere I can go to work out how benefits work. I've savings and not sure I'm entitled to anything, but I have no idea how maternity pay works as I'm partly self-employed and partly on temporary contract. I've been so self-sufficient that I've never had dealings with government finance stuff so am completely clueless on such things.

I also need to find somewhere else to live as I can't stay here with a baby. Not sure when to start looking. OH and I need to work out our living arrangements too... we currently don't live together and that works really well!

Gosh so much... anyway, one step at a time... what recommendations does anyone have for bras :rotfl:

........... Might be worth switching non-underwired but with good support, my boobs have gone up in size and decided not to shell out a fortune so just bought some from sainsbo's, underwires are not good for you if going to breastfeed I think, plus boobs will probably murder at some point so comfort is best!

Hi Jen. Our hospital is v pro breast as well . The mw at our class there said if you intend to bf but can't , then they Will provide formula and stuff.however if you just don't want to bf , then you have to bring your own. k x

My local hospital no longer supplies milk for babies ( unless you come in unexpected etc) I can't breastfeed due to medical reasons so I will buy the bottles from mr A which are pre made and exactly what they give you in hospital. I think they are rather expensive though. If you are planning on breastfeeding but for whatever reason can't I'm sure they would supply you with formula.

I am really hoping to breastfeed. I fed DD1 for 9 months with no issues. My boobs have actually got smaller throughout the pregnancy where as last time they were huge and leaked loads. I did mention it to the midwife but she didnt seem interested.

Has anyone elses boobs got smaller? I think i have gone from a D cup down to a B cup. I am hoping they change this week but i have been hoping that for weeks. Also has anyone else not leaked at all and due very soon?

Hubby got an earful, seems that he does not appear want to ensure mobile is on at all times 'cant gurantee' you can ring the office, 'no I bl:eek::eek:dy cant your phone should be on vibrate in meetings etc' his mobile is nothing but decoration... he's stressed, sometimes forgets to charge it  I know what he's at he hates phones but tough I am 34+4 'switch it on buster'......

Got iron results Gp rang basically in 4 wks has gone from 10.4 to 10.3 so dropped very slightly not low enough for infusions whatever but she would prefer if took something. So suggested can I keep with spatone and take the odd iron tablet when I can on days when dont take spatone. She knows that I wont take them properly (prescription is 3 a day!! not a chance) so its whatever I can do is better than nothing.
She is giving me lower dose tabs which are different version from what I had before.
She asked if having homebirth said no hospital as I understand if drops to 10 perhaps would affect homebirth but obviously I am still mildly anaemic so will see how I go. TBH I thought that the spatone was sort of 'holding' the line rather than increasing as bubs is clearly nicking the iron :rotfl:and thought that my gums etc looked pale.

What is it with men and phones. :D I finally (I think) got mine to see the point. After explaining the early stages are a bit 'is it isn't it' and I might want to phone him to discuss that it might be going to happen soon without sending either his mother or work into full scale panic. :D

Funny the different attitudes to iron, isn't it! Mine went from 10.6 to 10.3, then after 2 weeks down to 10.1, and my midwife is desperate to infuse me. I was only taking Spatone for about 3 or 4 weeks of the time she was checking, and only one sachet a day at that. My doc on the other hand says 10.6 was perfectly fine, and that link I posted yesterday says 9.5-10.5 (as long as other figures are fine) is actually a good thing!

On the breastfeeding front, I'm just assuming I'll be able to do it ok, so I've not bought anything. If for some reason I couldn't, I'm sure they wouldn't let the baby starve while someone dashed out for supplies! I've had no leaking yet, but I shall just wait and see what happens.
