Oh Kira I didn't even realise it was today. Glad it has all went well, was just a lump removing or a mastectomy?

A real close member of my family has recently undergone her second mastectomy, because her cancer returned (after 10 years, which is such a bummer) but she's doing great now, and after her chemo and radio, her hair is starting to grow back, black and poker straight, how random!

Thanks Gilly. It was full mastectomy of the left, plus an immediate abdominoplasty reconstruction. Basically, doing a tummy tuck and using the "proceeds" to make the new boob. Big op, 4 surgeons, hence the 8 hours!

Fairly radical, but in a way she was glad it wasnt a series of lumpectomies. Best to get rid of all the bad/risky bits at once. She also didnt fancy the other reconstruction alternatives she was offered of an implant that needed replacing in 10 years (re done boob job under GA when you are 70 anyone?), or poking her shoulder muscle through from the back to make a new boob, and therefore not having use of the left shoulder.

And yes, Lirin, bubs is big! I think my scoffing mars bars obviously has something to do with it, maybe :o I'm hoping he slows down a little, but we'l see, I don't really know where he's putting it either because I don't feel that "big" bump wise. Next to no fluid though so could be that. Also if baby is fully engaged, means you could go anytime

And now off to heat my apple pie, that's now took the place of dinner. Mmmm healthy!

And that would be why I'm mildly bricking it. And save some apple pie for me! :)

Just an update. Had a message from my sister to say mum is out of theatre and looking good, feeling as ok as can be expected after an 8 hour op. Such a relief. Feels bad not being there with her, but i think it was the right decision to stay home..

Kira, happy the op went well for your mum. You made the right decision hon, she will require a lot of aftercare at a time when you are in no position to give it.... You're as vulnerable as she is at this stage, but you can be there for her emotionally, which is every bit as valuable as physically.

I feel so calm about labour at the moment, it's sort of wrong. I guess it's because I have no real idea of what it's like so it's easier to pretend I'll get through it. My mum sent me a text saying "just do what they tell you and stay calm and it'l all be over quickly" not sure if that's good advice or just trying to scare me less.

Kira It is good to know that it could all be "gone" in one big op. My aunt chose not to have re constructive surgery as she had nothing to take from her to make the new boob, lucky if she's 7 1/2 stone. The outcome of breast cancer is on the whole a really good one, as you will no doubt have been told, and hopefully this will be your mum on the road to recovery now. It's a hard thing to go through, but with the new baby coming etc it'l give your mum something to focus on, which is normally a great healer in a lot of people.

Thanks hon... I'm chuffed that Bean chose today to finally show her face so i can send pics up to cheer mum up a bit. Sounds daft i know, but it feels like it was meant to be...

With ref to bricking it... i cant believe i am measuring 38 weeks already too! With at least 4 weeks more to go. eeek eeek eeek. The pressure i'm getting down low is getting more and more by the day. Didnt look like she was at all engaged today though, judging from the pics.

  • I really need to stop watching Masterchef, making chocolate tart on there today and its going to end up in me raiding the fridge again.

I'm not that bothered though. Had check up today, got weighed and at31 weeks, I weigh 7kg less than I did at my 8 week appointment. Flump weighed 2lb 14oz at 29 weeks too so they look to be ok too. :)

Kira. Your scan pics are fab :) so cute.

Seem to be getting kicked loads tonight, movements are so pronounced, OH has been watching bump move too, can definitely see it more now. Sure DD was never this active.

That's amazing Redhead  did you have bad sickness or something?

  • Had really bad sickness for first few months, then just complete loss of appetite, never fancied anything to eat, that was until about 6 weeks ago and even now its hit and miss with food.

But I had the weight to lose I guess. Before I was pregnant, I drank fizzy drinks throughout the day, then had to cut them out completely, switching to plain water so I think that helped too.

Well still really good, it'l mean you're not struggling to get the weight off when baby is here :) so well done.

It's been not even 3 hours and I am soooo thirsty. After reading online that laying down causes the fluid to come from the legs to the abdomen, and pushing on the bladder, do you think to sleep elevated, almost sitting up if you will, may help the bladder problem, I may try this tonight!
