I don't blame you hun, I hope you gave OH a right ticking off.

If it makes you feel any better, I drove for the first time in ages on sunday and managed to reverse OH's car into a grass verge and have dented all of the bumper!!!! And managed to get myself lost for an hour!! OH's car is his absolute pride and joy, he was more than a little bit unhappy. But on a lighter note, a few years ago I wrote a car off, and by changing insurers and eventhough the Other person claimed whiplash my insurance still went down, that was without any no claims, it was just a case of really searching trhough all of the comparison sites...... and one teeny tiny consolation, you could always go through compare the meerkat, I mean market for your next quote and get baby a little meerkat :D. Sorry not very helpful I know just trying to make the best of a bad situation for you (((hugs))) Wish you lived closer hun I'd take you for a ginger bread latte xx

Speaking of which I still haven't had one!!! Trouble is means going into the city to get one.... but I do really want one!

Our little father christmas suit from mothercare came yesterday, you should see it it is so so cute, and OH's mum brought round the little brown bear snowsuit that she'd brought from there too. Tescos also have the cutest reindeer outfits, might have bought one of those too!!:o

Well im sitting on my ball trying to get comfy whilst OH texts me from upstairs in bed!!!!! Lazy sod, think he needs to get up and make me a coffee!!! It's alright for him Mr 8 hours sleep!!!

Right enough of my whinging I am going to go and do something constructive, like erm....... watch frasier or something :D and wait for OH to make me coffee!!!!!!

Thanks hon. I didnt need to tick him off.. he was mortified last night, and not much better this morning, so i actually feel bad for him! I did make him do all the talking to the insurance this morning, and he is about to take the car to the garage for assessment. It MAY not be as bad as he thought- wait and see. But he has said he will pay any costs that arise (excess etc) and my increased insurance next year, which helps me a bit.

Sorry you had an accident with your OHs car too. Must be something in the air. I am a bit car obsessive myself, it is my baby, so he probably feel much like you do!

Thanks for the thought of a gingerbread latte... how about we pull up virtual chairs in our virtual PG cafe, and you can have the latte, and i'll have a HUGE mochafrappucino. Cheers!

Hope your little monkey decides to arrive soon!

PS, how you getting on practising the hypno? I think i'm getting on quite well.. lots of deep breathing and not falling asleep but feeling slightly fuzzy round the edges!

Kira, just realised it was hire purchase from your other thread. My plan of using payout to get smaller car wont work then.

Not sure what to add, obviously hind sight is a good thing, but not worth much now. Hire purchase in my eyes = very bad. Especially in situations like this, would the insurance actually cover the remaining balance on the hire purchase? It be a complete !!!!!! if they paid less than your remaining balance as you'd have no car and still owe £1k or so.

But for a start, get your OH to ditch the expensive toy. Both of you seem a little accident prone, and with 0 no claims and a history of accident for both of you you need a little car (between you maybe) to bring your no claims back up and to reinforce the finances. Your having a baby soon and supposedly they cost a lot ;)

Hi Neas.. thanks. Due to learning from the last accident, I have a good GAP policy, so i'm not too worried about a shortfall situation.
I agree DH needs to get rid of his monster. I cant drive it for one. A semi auto SMG gearbox is not for me- and a key reason for him crashing mine, as not used to the whole brake/clutch thing when stopping anymore.

Accident prone? It would look that way but i think quite unlucky! He had 7+ yrs no claims, this is his first, but had 2 SP30's. I'm a very careful driver, but just had a run of bad luck- A burglary where they stole my car (- 2 years NC as counts as my fault), a lorry who drove into me (their fault no affect on NCD), and last years write off (-2 years NC) due to catastrophic steering failure (reoccurance of a previous fault) that couldnt be proved 100% due to the bad accident damage. But the reasons why dont make a difference, the fault claims are fault claims.

My car is quite a little car- but i drive up to 3.5 hours to work and back, so a pooty little thing isnt practical or economical. Been there, tried that, and we both need cars at the same time, so sharing not practical either. I HATE DH driving my car, always have, so i think next year, he is off the insurance! Now just need to persuade him towards something more sensible for a substitute for him.. he is quite shocked by the whole thing, so i'll try and capitalise on it!

  • Kira, so sorry to hear about your car. At least your husband is OK, and hopefully your insurance will provide a courtesy car while it's all sorted out?

    Congrats on team pink Lola888!

I'm off to a 2 day conference tomorrow - it's going to be really odd being away, as after my last job when I was travelling every week, I've got really used to being home every night. I'm staying with a friend who I haven't seen for a year (since her wedding), so that will be lovely. Just hope I'm not too tired to be sociable - I have a taxi to the station booked for 6.25am tomorrow morning, early night tonight I think!!!

DH has just found out that they've set his MPhil bursary up to start on 1st Nov and is now wondering whether he should actually be there working... not much he can do if they've only just told him about it though :) It's been great not having to do housework for 6 months, guess I'm going to have to get used to doing stuff round the house again :(
