  • Hey Missymoo - you weren't the only one up at 5:30

Starting to feel a bit better about bump - Considering taking Mat leave early and rest (I stupidly said i would work up until 5th Dec when I'm due 26th)

Me and OH had one of "those" talks last night - am sick of having them now. From what I can gather he wants us to "be friends" - and nothing else. Not going to happen.

At work today and then off all week. Hope your all feeling better.

WW - Thank you - midwife never said what I was measuring when she did it - She just said i was "smaller than expected" - Will know more after my next check up

    Morning all!

Slept right the way through last night. First time in ages and I think mostly due to the fact that its night 4 since my hubby went back to work. I miss his cuddles in bed but i dont miss waking each other up through the night!

Luckily the rain seems to have passed through in the night so its fairly clear this morning so the builders are cracking on full speed. They now have 56 days to get my house built and watertight. As lovely and cosy as it is living in one room i dont fancy living like this with a newborn! Still waiting for the plaster to dry in babies room so i can get painting. There's no heating in there at the moment so it is taking forever to dry. Im so impatient!

    RANT ALERT!

I woke up at stupid oclock and finally managed to go back to sleep at 7.30 only to be woken up by someone outside weilding a chainsaw at 8.30, it was so frickin loud!!!!!! So awake and grumpy now and I have an assignment to write, really not happy, why can't people at least wait until 9. Sometimes I really hate living here!!

Hi laides, I have a question for those of you who did the NCT classes. Did you also do the NHS ones? I'm tempted to do both as the NHS ones might give me more specific info about what happens at my hospital that might be different to 'standard'.

Ive only done the NHS one but would recommend it. I now know exactly what is on offer and what isnt and got to have a good snoop about the maternity and labour wards.

If i hadnt done it then i would have been putting mobile epidural on my birth plan but our hospital doesnt do mobile epidurals and i dont want to be laid flat out with a regular epidural if i can help it.

Also found out what the labour rooms are like. I cried as soon as we left the hospital and for days afterwards because they were so clinical and i really dont want having the baby to feel like a medical procedure. I may have been better not knowing but at least i now have time to formulate a plan to spend the least amount of time possible there. :-)

How many antenatal appointments have you all had? By mat leave, I will have had 11 appointments- work are querying with HR as to whether this is a reasonable amount of time off or not.

think ive had about 6 at 37 weeks lirin

but then everyone is different and need different levels of care. I don't think any company is allowed to stop you going to see the MW, should be on the internet somewhere.

not includiny my 3 scans and my 2 GTT, which then makes 11

    At 30 weeks so far-
    1x GP
    2 x Local Midwife
    3 x Hospital Midwife/2 inc bloods
    3 x Consultant
    2 x Scan

I still have 1 xconsultant, 1 X scan and 1 x Midwife booked in the next 4 weeks. At some point during these i will be booked in for a range of extras as the care goes to fortnightly then weekly right at the end. So all in all i will be at 14 by week 34!

Reasonable time depends on personal circumstances. A younger, second time mum, with absolutely no complications at all, according to NiCE guidlines, should have minimum 7 appointments, First time mums should have 2 extra, and for any complications, age, illness, twins, going overdue, big baby small baby etc etc there will be more. As long as you are able to show appointment cards/something written from the m/w/hospital/gp if asked, then its fair to assume the experts (i.e not HR!) feel you need an appointment, which makes it reasonable! NHS has few enough resources that they dont go round giving out extra unnecessary appointments!

  • Lirin, there not allowed to refuse you time off for maternity related apointments even if they disagree with the ammount you have.

    so far i have had.
    5 week booking appointment
    9 week scan
    10 week bloods
11 week check up with mw

    still to come
12.5 week flu jab and mw
    14 week scan
    15 week bloods
    16 week mw
    18 weeks consultant
    20 week scan (plus gtt)
    22 week scan +obs
    24 week scan+obs
26 week scan + med review
    29 week scan + steroids +obs +possible overnight stay
    31 week scan
weekly scans and obstetrition after that with view to delivering as soon as baby becomes distressed.

luckily i am signed off because of this as my employer would have a cow if i told them all my apointments, at the moment there having a cow because i am signed off for 18 months at the moment but i have offered to go quietly if they wish to sack me, i canot however quit because i wont be entitled to anything for 26 weeks.
