hey bluebell, Im afraid I cant help on the funding side either, I'd like to know how you go about claiming your family allowance though, im sure someone will be along shortly who knows. I don't think nurseries take very new babies either, not really sure what to suggest I'm afraid. Can you not make the money up with tax credits or topup type things?

Well I started to clean the spare room, did an hour and was knackered!! God hefting this huge baby around is really taking its toll, have just settled down for some lunch

i am not an expert but as far as i am aware:

family allowance- in your bounty pack you get in hospital you get a form to fill in for claiming. however baby needs to be registered first so any delays registaring the birth and getting a birth certificate can hold things up.

Paying for childcare. if you are entitled to working family tax you can claim 70% off the childcare costs while you are at work. also some employers offer childcare vouchers but i dont know how they work

i went to the midwifes this morning and i am measuring big. i am 32 weeks and my bump is measuring 35cm and she said it should be 31cm so it is quite a bit bigger in her words. also i am recess (sorry probably spelt wrong) negitive so had to have a jab. i dont really understand why but she said my body could fight against baby! dont like the sound of that! i feel a bit like a failure how can my body be against my babies made me feel very sad

I'm Rhesus negative too - I think a lot of us are! I'm due a jab in mid November. Don't worry about it, if anything you can blame your parents as you've inherited your blood group from them. If the baby's Dad is Rhesus positive, your baby might be Rhesus positive or negative. As you give birth, you can get some of your baby's blood mixed in with your blood. If your body detects anything it doesn't recognise in the blood, it attacks it - it's part of the natural immune response against viruses and infections. Your immune system can't tell the difference between a virus and the baby's Rh+ blood, so it tries to fight against it. It remembers this stuff it doesn't recognise in future pregnancies, so it won't harm your first born but it might cause problems with future pregnancies - but only if your baby is positive, rather than negative. Don't worry x

I'm due £10 a week in working tax credits, according to one of the benefit check things, when bump arrives :D I earn a bit too much to qualify for most things, but the majority of my pay goes on houshold bills and food etc, so there's not a lot left over. Don't know if DH will be entitled to anything though as he'll offically be a student then... Will look into childminders! It's a bit tricky when i don;t know the area that well, or any expectant parents who might be able to recommend someone.

Hey bluebell - I'm sure the nurseries here also take very small babies too. Maybe try calling a few to ask what the minimum age is :)

    thanks jenjade x

when my sister had a baby 8 years ago now, she applied for a grant or something like that, it was money given by the council £100 or £200 or soemthing, do they still do this, and is there a wage limit to it? Thought that might help Bluebell.

Bluebell, have you looked into childcare vouchers through either yours or your OH's employee? Most nurseries and childminders take them. It helps cut the cost a little as means the amount you receive in vouchers is taken off before tax. You can get some more information here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/ccin.htm and work out if you better off claiming them.

Dont worry about the measurements too much.

I measured 26.5 at 28 weeks and then last week at 31 weeks i measured at 27cm (swiftly followed by major panicing by me!)

Turns out baby is just laid across ways. The measurements only come true if baby is laid exactly head up or head down. If its got itself into any other position the measurements will be off.

Heres hoping baby does get too comfy and refuse to put its head down over the next 8 weeks!

My little boy was born in a September and to start with he slept in a sleepsuit and a hat and I covered him over with a cotton blanket. For the first fews days he was home I used a shortsleve body suit under the sleepsuit aswell but was tolds by midwife this was too many layers and better to be a little cool then too hot on a night. He was quite a big baby and after about a month I started putting him in a sleeping bag and have used them since. Before he was born I didn't have a clue and stocked up on flat sheets (as well as the fitted sheets I used) and celluar blankets but never ended up using them. With this baby I'll most likely used a cotton blanket again on a night then move onto sleepbags (think a baby needs to be a minimum weight before going in them).

Thanks - and do you just put the sheet/cellular under their arms, or over their shoulders tucked in under the mattress.

I fed my first baby on Saturday! I know that's probably not much to most on here.... I've played with babies before, but always scared stiff of dropping them, or damaging them.
My friends baby is 6-7 weeks old now, and she showed me how to bottle feed him (All I could think was how painful breastfeeding looks like it could be, judging from the force on the bottle....).

I sound like a 16-yr-old, but honestly, I've never done a feed. I know a tiny bit more now than I did.... :)

thanks Sammy. My baby is head down feet up under my ribs (had a 3d scan so know where she is) i think my dates are a week out anyway at the 3d scan she said she would put my due date as the 11th dec.
