Yes, one whole inch. He actually showed me with his hand where he thought my stomach would grow to, it'l probably be that size next week!

It scares me to the point of hyperventilating when I think I have to care for someone that tiny, who relies on me completely. I had a sobering thought while in the shower last week that forever more it'l never just be the 2 of us, there will always be someone else to consider and think about. GOD.

gilly I know exactly what you mean, it really is scary, In 5 weeks time I will have this little tiny thing that needs my constant attention and is my responsibility.... OH doesn't have the faintest idea about babies, bless him he thought nappies just pulled up like pants, and thinks that if you put a baby in a chair beside you they will entertain themselves whilst you just get on with your every day life! And that babies might maybe wake up once in the night, and probably need feeding when you eat...... bless him he really has a lot to learn. I'm sure he'll pick it up and be great though.

I'm totally carping myself with the thought of having a tiny person to look after. But I think what is terrifying me more is the thought that this tiny person will at some point turn into a teenager... and then having to deal with that...

    Congrats Flower!!!

Gilly, I've told DH that male lactivation and pregnancy are possible, so he'd better start researching...... He told me recently very lovingly- 'Don't worry about your stomach sweetheart, it'll deflate like a balloon after baby.'

    Not really encouraging, that.

I love it when they think they are being reassuring :rotfl::rotfl:

My OH has been there and done this a few times before and doesn't bother with being reassuring, he's quite no nonsense anyway :o

Love it whoever mentioned 13lb babies and surgery.... I dread to think what my OH would say, and we definitely don't have the money for surgery, he'd probably have me trying to squash bananas to check the extent of the damage, that's what comes of being with someone so practically minded and logical as he is :o he bought some pants for me with Squeak for hospital.... they were polyester mesh frilly pants  bless him, he said they looked like they'd be good for airflow and being breathable :rotfl: forever an engineer :o

ETA: I forgot to say congratulations for all the new arrivals, some lovely names too :D:D

Hi ladies. Congrats to Mirror and Flower on your new arrivals. Happy mummy cuddles!

I'm just back from my 28 week midwife appointment and GTT (am 29 weeks tomorrow). Having been intensively lectured on the need to be on time for the GTT blood test, correct fasting time, and taking the drink on the dot of 2 hours before the appointment when the midwife made the GTT appt back at my booking in, I turned up this morning 20 mins early (just to be safe), only to be told that neither midwife had shown up on time. So they took my GTT blood 15 mins late when they eventually showed up. Not impressed. Telling you now, i am NOT going through that again for a repeat test in that place just cos they didnt leave home in time. It was in a scummy health centre, with 2 doctors surgeries operating from there, which they have moved a satellite antenatal clinic to from the hospital. Full of codgers with hacking phlegmy coughs, and stank of poo. Really unpleasant.

On the upside, i had my 28week midwife check as well, and i'm measuring 29 cm, so spot on for 29 weeks tomorrow. Beanie has finally shifted from transverse (yay!) and is head down, not engaged (also good, dont want her dropping too soon), and lying semi side on, so midwife could feel one fist and one foot. Heartbeat all fine. I thought my BP might have been a bit high, and mentioned so to the m//w, what with them running late, and the stress with my mum, but when she did it, she said it was 120/70, which i dont think is high (although she gave me a funny look when she told me, so not sure whether she thought it was too high, too low or what!).

I just keep reassuring myself- as long as I don't drop the baby down the stairs, bounce it like a rugby ball, forget about it when we're out, stop it from running wild with the mafogglies, and well, in general- keep it alive and healthy, then I'll probably do fine.....

Babies are tougher than they get credit for so please don't worry too much :) Once they get here you'll wonder what you ever did without them :)

Sorry for the late update. Noah was born on 07/10/2011 weighing 9lb 3oz (so much for baby measuring small!) - delivery was pretty straight forward and no complications. Middle name yet to be confirmed.

Congrats Flower! Everyone keeps telling me my bump is small for 31 weeks, and its making me paranoid that I'm not doing the right things for my baby to grow properly.... Seeing the midwife on Friday so will see what she says...

I will be 33 weeks on Friday, and on one hand, I'm cheerful enough, barring pelvic pain I've had no problems, and on the other- what on earth will I do with a child? The pregnancy bit is fine, the whole caring, coping- I should have by now, but can't quite get my head around sharing Christmas with another person in the family....

I feel like this - the phrase "A dog is for life and not just for Christmas" keeps running through my head!

Same here - I worry about this actually, and feel sad that it won't ever be just me and OH in the future. I miss "just us" already.

PS. Did you start watching The Wire yet?

I'm so glad you said this Wonder Womble, I'm in tears now thinking about it, I also feed sad that it's not gonna be just us, and I thought it made me a crappy mum to think things like that. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Thank you so much for posting that. Yeah I've started, on episode 9 now :) took a while to get into like you said, but it is very good. :D

Kira My BP was 120/70 and my GP told me that was as close to perfect as you'd get in pregnancy, so I wouldn't worry too much.
