    Gorgeous Alison :D he's a wee cracker.

Uh oh think I've just upset my Dad, trying to explain why I don't want people visiting for a few weeks after baby is born. Now I know I sound unreasonable but I live far away from family, it's not possible to drive here for an over night or anything, you'd have to get a ferry or plane and it's for a few days at least. I just don't know if I'll feel up to entertaining people so soon after having the baby. Not that they'l be able to stay with us, they would be staying in a hotel, but I'd just feel "responsible" almost as there sole purpose of the trip is to visit me and baby, and if I've had a bad night or whatever, may not feel up to seeing them.

Am I being unreasonable? I feel awful now :(

Thanks Jenjade and Gilly. I'm besotted with him. I'd forgotten how adorable new borns are :D

Gilly I only saw family for 2 weeks. Only once I got the hang of breast feeding, and was feeling on top of things, did I want visitors. I told the OH and everyone else, that i would let people know when i was ready for visitors.

I am getting ready to start using my washable nappies and wipes. I have bambino mio. :D

See that's how I feel, I don't mind OH's family coming to visit, they're 30 miles down the road, and if after an hour or so if I'm tired or baby needs bathed/fed etc I can say to them to go. How can I say that to people who have travelled a fair distance and spent money to visit? :o

I dont think your being unreasonable gilly stick to your guns, I know its hard without feeling guilty but its your time to adjust to being a mum, not being a hostess to visitors :)

Beside Gilly, unless you are having a planned c-section, baby could arrive 2 weeks early or late. No point people booking flights til he arrives anyways. I wouldn't dream of staying with someone who had just had baby. It's a time for close fAmily only.

Pigpen your daughter is a wee dote!!! So cute!! Absolutely love the name too.

Don't worry Gilly, I'm planning on being fairly selfish when it comes to visitors for the first few weeks, and everyone is, at most, an hour's drive away! Maybe if I wasn't a first-timer then it'd be different but you're going to have enough on your plate getting the hang of everything without having a load of family to entertain as well!

I'm planning on going down the reusables route as well... Thanks for all the tips everyone has posted so far! It really is a minefield! :D

Thanks girls :) I just don't want to upset anyone and I know how eager people will be to see him. I just feel they will get a better opportunity if they leave it a few weeks.

Think I may have decided on a bouncer, the videos online reviewing it seem really good! Plus it's the only little chair I've seen that "bounces" rather than vibrates, what does everyone think?

OMG, I think i might be nesting! Finally!
Mum arrived back from barbados today (had a great time!) and they popped in to see us on the way up the motorway home to collect the bag of stuff i've prepared for her hospital visits.
Our place was a bit of embarrassment as DH is a bit hopeless about tidiness, and having had 5 months of bad m/s followed by tiredness and heartburn i've been a bit lax too. But having mum visit provided a bit of a kick up the ****, so spent yesterday and today wiping walls, cleaning loo, basin, sink, hoovering, tidying, hanging clothes, sorting junk and generally trying to unchaos! Now i feel all twitchy and cant stop! Am on third lot of washing today already!

Oh, and good news, the fudge is awesome! Very creamy and slightly crumbly texture just how i like it! Cant have much tho as is v sweet and makes beanie start kicking the hell out of me!

Plus, as cute and adorable as newborns are, let's not forget that they are really quite boring for the first few weeks! Nothing but eating, pooping and sleeping! Much better for people to visit in a few weeks once things start to get a bit more interesting! :rotfl:

That bouncer looks good! I found a mamas & papas one for a bargain price a few weeks ago and as we're on such a tight budget I had to get it. Will post a linky in a mo...

This is the one I've got. I don't really like the dangly things on the bar, think they're a bit boring but the bouncer itself is lovely, and it was such a great bargain (and brand new!) that I couldn't not get it!
