Good morning all. how are you this morning?

Well, we did the fishtanks tidy-up over the last two days, and finally it is looking better. There are still some plants to sort out in the washing up bowls, but at least the water and filters have been cleaned!

So, after a busy two days, my hip decided it had enough, and I had the worst experience tonight, when going to the loo and back it felt like my leg is collapsing under me! Not a good combination with being half asleep. And also the pain in one side, especially as I 'empty my bladder' - I actually had to stop half way, as the pain was getting unbearable!!!!!! Will have to mention this to the consultant tomorrow. Hope she is not going to be as dismissive as the 'midwife' I saw 7 weeks ago, who was just telling me to tell things to my midwife! I know I am complaining a lot - sorry, I am happy with the pregnancy, but I just need 'to let out' things. And the other one is - I got the pain in my hand last night, and thought it could be due to cold water in the bathroom at work, and the work in the fishtanks, it is a pain through the middle and ring finders, on the side between them going through into the hand itself and a bit to the wrist. I hope this settles down, as my hand hurts now when I type!!!!!

Anyway, all in all - I am fine. I am back in the office today again, so it is early morning start, and the lack of sleep is not helping - I need to be out of bed by about 5.45am the latest to catch the train, and got home yesterday just after 6pm. Consultant tomorrow morning, so can have a sleep in till about 6.30-7am, which sounds luxury these days and then working from home!

About the baby movements. I am 17w+2, and I have been feeliing for the last week or two 'something', which I thought is probably babies moving. It is not painful or anything, but time from time it will feel like a pressure from inside in the lower bump area. It was mentioned in my notes that I have anterior placenta, so I guess the proper kicks will take time to be felt, but are these 'pressure' feeling likely to be babies moving?

Nappies. OH is quite keen to try the disposables, but with the twins I am worried that I will never see the end of washing them! The initial outlay would be huge (or so I think). I know, the disposables are not the cheap option, but I am all for an easy life... We might have a look at them more in a few weeks and see if it can work, but I am not sure I want to end up washing piles of nappies every day on top of all the bedding, clothes, muslins, etc. for the babies and all our stuff as well.

Thanks :) I kept going to add them to top up a wash, then half remembering something about no softener! I think one lot of mine were washed but never used when I bought them, but I shall put them through a couple of times anyway. I was going to leave washing them for when the disposables started to run out, but hey, what else am I going to do with my time? :D Baby has a new trick at the mo, doing something, god knows what, that twinges a nerve, sends a pain down my leg, and then it doesn't work properly and I end up hopping for a moment. Ok until they managed to do both legs at once the other day! :D

Oh, I assume for best results I need to fully dry the nappies between each wash? Can't cheat and just put them back in the washer? :D

I remember my midwife telling me at around 12 weeks it was 'too early' for pelvic pain, ooh, thanks! She was commenting the other day I seemed more laid back as the weeks go on, no, I've just given up mentioning stuff. :D Luckily, though I can't do much, I haven't had it nearly as badly as some, so have just staggered through.

Reusables, you could always go for a mix of nappies, and throw in disposables when you're feeling the pressure of too much to do? If you go for unbranded ones, they can be bought quite cheaply on Ebay. Obviously I haven't tried mine yet, but I paid £34 inc postage for 10, branded ones are in the region of £15 each! I also got 5 branded ones washed but never used for around the same price, and my council are going to send me £30 back for trying them. If your council does the same, it might be worth buying a few just to see how you go. I had to spend £50 to get £30 back, but it varies by area.

Thanks for advise - I thought we could try the reusables at home and then disposables for the night and out. 10 nappies are not going top last long with 2 babies, how many would you think I need to start with? If we start off with the disposables, then by the time we get to reusables they might be going through 6 nappies say each, so that is 12 a day, and I think we would want to have at least a couple of days supply, so don't run out of them - 30-40 nappies? Even for unbranded ones it is £100+, then plus the washing powder/liquid, electricity and water...

Somewhere I read suggested allowing for 10 nappies a day (per child), so either 20 or 30 depending on how much washing you think you'll be doing, and more importantly, how quickly you can get them dry!

From what I can gather, it's probably not worth using reusables if you're doing it purely as a money-saving exercise, as when you add up all the washing etc it doesn't save much, if anything. (However if you go on to have a 2nd/3rd/4th child, reusables become very good value!)
For me, it's more about stopping 3000 nappies a year going to landfill!

However, as my baby becomes more real, I'm starting to doubt my commitment, I must admit....! The prospect of all that washing is a nightmare - plus we don't have a tumble drier, so I'm worried about getting them dry. Does anyone have any prior experience of using reusables without having a tumble drier - is it manageable (i.e. worth the stress/hassle?!)

We'll probably use a mixture anyway - my mum etc won't want to faff around with reusables when she's looking after LO.

Got blood tests this morning at the hospital, yuk. :o

Well, it would be good if we managed not to overfill the bin with the nappies for our every 2 weeks collection!!!! We have a washing machine with the tumble drier, it is ok, but it takes a while to dry things, and I find that I still hang them out to finish off and get some 'air'. I was thinking that a dehumidifier would help to dry things faster - might need to look into that.

I found some references that we can £45 from county council, and one place mentioned £70 for two children, so might have a look into that. If we can get some real nappies for £150-200, and use £70 to cover some of that, it would be great.

    Morning all :j

Re cloth nappies can imagine that washing could get a bit much
With twins however you can buy 2nd hand ones for example from the cloth nappy tree classifieds and thus if you find they are
not for you then no harm done to your budget just resell them!
Buying them this way is by far cheaper than disps. I will start off with disps then try my reusables which are 2nd hand and new.

Re rasberry leaf tea am not taking any supplements at all:eek:

Lovecrafting good to hear things are going well

Kira glad to hear your mum is doing well

4nnabella deffo feeling more discomfort now ! Couldn't sit on the sofa all anywhere for that matter. Ended up sending hubby out to get me a stool to sit on ! Bedtime pummelling has increased too

    Tc all

Re the nappies - I was told I'd need about 20 (to allow for a couple of days worth and drying time). Got a mix of totsbots and little lambs - someone posted a link a good few weeks back to their site where they had end of line ones so I got a few new ones quite cheap and some extra boosters too. All been through the wash a couple of times but I've got disposables to start with.

I've been told no conditioner too, but that if you shake/flick them out hard before you put them up to dry it helps keep them soft. Dunno if it works but easy to try. I was also told not to tumble dry but I've been part drying them in there then hanging them up nearish to a radiator.

40+2 today and still nothing, no show, waters, cramping, back pain, not a thing. Can't believe after all these months of being glad not to have periods I'm desperate for some period pains :rotfl:. I know I was induced at +10 days (which was the max they would leave mum at the time) and I'm really hoping my baby does not decide to do the same!

I'm sure I remember reading that you don't have to dry them in between the first washes... When I'm at home later I will check the sheet of guidelines and tips I got when I bought mine... Not sure if I can open the attachment on my phone...

Got up early this morning to get a lift from OH to the surgery to go to the blood clinic, thinking I'd be waiting there a while, as it's a drop-in, take a number kind of thing, instead, I was only waiting ten minutes so have now got an hour and a half to kill in town before my massage appointment! So I am now enjoying a decaf mocha coffee and chocolate muffin in my favourite coffee shop and then will go have a bit of a mooch around town before I need to be there. Must remember to get more heartburn stuff, and also hit Holland & Barratts for some RLT...

Turns out I can open the nappy care attachment on my email... It says this about washing them:
    How to Wash Cloth Nappies

Before Use: Nappies should be washed prior to use. Nappies made of natural fibres, such as Bamboo, Cotton and Hemp, should be washed 3-4 times before use, as this will improve absorbency. There is no need for drying between washes. Other materials, such as PUL (nappy covers) and micro-fibre can be washed prior to use but it is not absolutely necessary. Nappies of deep colours, such as red, should always be washed separately at first to ensure the colouring does not run.
