    Hope everyone is well today?

I haven't had a chance to read back far, but was wondering if any of you were planning on using a doula for the birth?

I had considered it after reading about it all, and when i realised that i would only have my DH available for supprt due to my mum being incapacitated and unable to travel, and thought it might have been nice to have someone around with more experience. Having looked at who was available in my area, and the prices, and DH having been willing to read some books and come to classes, i decided against. If we had had more funds available, and it wasnt due to be a xmas/new year baby, which i didnt think would have gone down very well in terms of people planning their festive period, i may have considered it a little more.

How is your mum getting on Kira? Is she recovering ok?

I think I've been having loads of Braxton Hicks today, I think... All across the underneath of my bump, but they've been more like uncomfortable period-type cramps today, rather than the pain-free tightening I had a few weeks ago that I thought was BH too. Pip had been wriggling away merrily so am guessing whatever it is, everything's ok...

I've been having those feelings too Annabella, period cramping on and off, for the past 2 days, sometimes it get's really intense, it did last night in the middle of the night, and it took me a while to get back to sleep.

Well just had my roast eventually :D chicken, roasties, mash, carrot, swede and brocolli, all washed down with a pint of milk. Was so yummy. OH is at work tonight so I may just get back into bed! :o

Aww. thanks for asking. Yes, she is doing pretty well. The op is all done, no chemo/radio needed. She has been on mega antibiotics as one of the surgery areas had a bit of a nasty infection, but seems to be clearing up now. She is up and about and socialising, just having to limit what she tries to do (easier said than done!). We had a bit of an :eek: :( moment, when they told her post op, that having examined the removed breast, they may not have needed to do the full mastectomy afterall- the biopsy they did to start with got one of the bits, and the other could have been got the same way with a wire, so wouldnt even have been classed as a lumpectomy. BUT they discovered in the nipple tissue, another, rarer form of cancer they didnt expect, that you cant detect initially, until you get symptoms. It MAY not ever have developed into anything, so she could have not needed the op ever, but it MAY have developed at somepoint in the future, and not been seen till it spread. So, all in all, mum feels like maybe it was for the best that it went the way it did....

Aah that's good to hear. I'm really glad she's getting on ok. My aunt had breast cancer a few years ago, had a double (I think) mastectomy and radiotherapy and she's been given the all-clear now, which is fab.

Glad you got your roast dinner eventually Gilly! Sounds yummy! OH is making enchiladas and potato wedges this evening. I'm so hungry... Although I've had heartburn all afternoon and think I've finally managed to shift it so am really hoping that dinner doesn't bring it back! I've run out of ranitidine tablets and am running out of Gaviscon liquid so am hoping it stays away until I can get to Boots tomorrow to get more.

Glad your mum is on the mend Kira, it's a big op, so it maybe is for the best it's sort of cut and dry now and over and done with. I know my aunt who had 2 single mastectomys said she wishes she'd had it all done at the one time.

My heartburn is still under control, only get it bad periodically, convinced my baby will be as bald as a coot :D

Glad ur mum is on the mend Kira xx
I was just wondering about the going home as i`m desperate not to have to stay in overnight if at all possible :( very selfish, but 3 other children at home and a poorly hubby, dont wanna put on friends and neighbours too much. I know they dont mind, they r worth their weight in gold those that live in my rd, but if i`m stuck in hosp just for the sake of it i`ll really be panicking! Had to stay in 5 days with DD3 as they thought she had strep B, in hindsight, we could have gone home and just returned to hosp for the daily antibioics. Would have been alot easier than sitting in hosp crying my eyes out every day! xx

I would LOVE to do this with all of the new babies to snuggle :D
Yea was great. Although my first mum was foreign and wanted me in sight at all times. So made me walk round and round outside with the pram for half hour for the baby to sleep as he wouldn't sleep in the cot. And the last lady I worked for put me off. She already had a doula who didn't want to keep working for her. She had twins @ 2 months old and owned a massive 5 bedroom house. She rewrote my contract and then gave me loads of housework and nothing else to do. I was barely aloud to touch the babies and she didn't want any personal help or to chat just to do her hw. So dunno why she just didn't get a cleaner in. She had some odd housework rules and I kept forgetting so she "fired" me. Was glad to leave tbh and not suprised that the other doula didn't want to keep working for her! Proper stuck up she was. Oh and she didn't want to pay the full amount we had agreed. Stingey when she was rich as heck but hey ho!

Emmylou, just want to ask what normally happens after labour when it's known the mum has had strep b? Do they like to keep you in longer for observation etc?
