Sat 17th Sept OS Daily

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 17th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Wow. I've never been first before. Or started a thread.

Morning all. I'm being lazy this morning watching rugby. OS today - finish cleaning bathroom. Sort piles of books for charity shop.

Have a good day all.

  • Morning!

First time I've participated in this thread for ages. I'm Laura, 38, Glaswegian and freezing!

Had a good day as I was able to put some money into my ISA (my MSE goal is to fill it to the limit). I'll be out and about most of today. I've got my Rosemary Conley class this morning and then I'm planning a wee trip into town this afternoon if I'm not too exhausted after the morning's exercise class.

OS for today will be knitting. I'm working on a charity shawl and really enjoying it.

  • Good morning cat_smith and to those who follow.
Have been up for a while, just couldn't sleep. Going shopping soon, so that will be that out of the way. I really used to love going shopping but i now find it such a chore.
DD wasn't at school yesterday, thumping headache which resulted in her being ill last night. So think it maybe turned into a migraine or very close. DH was at the clinic the night before because he had been bitten whilst we were over the allotment. He is on antibiotics now as his arm looked very nasty. He has a forearm like popeye. Quick update on DD, she hasn't lost anymore of her eyebrows, still patchy from the initial ones that came out but not out completely so we are really pleased about that :j. No growth on the eyelashes as yet but still early days.
Hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all, Hi to Laura and Cat_Smith

Forever Saving hugs to your DD.

Up early as I was woken up by the rain, it is so loud this morning!
I think I may have to use the TD to dry my washing this morning, there is one load on the line that has been there all night and I think that it is wetter than when I put it out!

I am off to have my hair cut this morning and then I have to make a trip to the supermarket, I try to only go once a fortnight and food is getting a bit low in the house.

Tonight OH and I are going to a friends silver wedding party, should be great fun, there is a disco and a curry, get those dancing shoes on!:D

Tea tonight is probably spaghetti bolognese or something else made with mince.

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

I've been up since before 5am, I'm sooooooooo tired!

Spent time with DS cuddling in bed, which turned into a tickle fight... DS felt Baby Roo kick a few times, which pleased him. So he's ready for the day now, dressed and wanting to play. And hyper! After the funeral yesterday its nice to see him so happy today. He did really well, and I was very proud.

So this morning I've started making Low Gi rolls, and I'm going to make breakfast waffles soon (scotch pancakes in the waffel machine, hope it works, cross fingers). I'm making soup for lunch with the rolls, and have a friend visiting tonight. Between the family all the chores need doing (washing, hoovering, dusting, bathroom, floors, bedding, rabbit hutch, washing-up) so its a busy day today.

Hope everyone has a great day xxx

  • Good morning all and ((hugs)) to anyone in need

It seems I spoke too soon about the fridge! It's now leaking black oily liquid  so I suspect it's on its last legs. This month has been a nightmare - first the car, then the WM, and now this! I have no idea how we will afford a new fridge/freezer on top of everything else. There is a house clearance store nearby so we might have to go and see if they have a second hand one for a reasonable price - even just as a stop-gap. The freezer is packed and I would hate to lose all the things I've worked so hard preparing :(.

On the bright (?) side the new WM is coming today so I will at least be able to do something about the huge pile of laundry that is taking over my home.

OS wise, it's just general housework today, although I might have to look at recipes for different jams and/or chutneys as I have been given a monster of a marrow and I doubt whether I'll be able to trick any of the family into eating it as it is.

    Have good days all

Good Morning all well its wet'n'windy hear in the Medway valley and the river from my window is not looking very nice at all, gun-metal grey and very low skys which too are grey and damp looking. But hey ho its Saturday and I'm off to a family 'do' tonight for a 50th birthday (mere sprog :):))So that will be nice .My intentions today are to make a lemon drizzle cake as last weeks one was so nice (I gave it to my sis-in-law whom I was visiting)then I am going to make odds 7 sods quiche out of left over bits in the fridge to use them up.I seem to have a glut of eggs.and will probably make some small iced fairy cakes for the little ones tomorrow .I like to take around something to DDs if I can as I go there every sunday afternoon for dinner in the evening. I'm half way through 'One Day' and finding it quite good which is odd as I'm not normally that keen on chick-littty type of books. My friend gave me The Pianist to read so I'm looking forward to that as the film was excellent. So apart from some baking this morning and some reading this afternoon and a party tonight that just about takes care of my Saturday.Hope everyone has a good day whatever you may be doing
    Take care all

    Morning all,
WM & BM whirring away, I've got loads of food to sort out, another one here who snapped up the bogof chickens at Mr. T's y/day I got 4, I have cooked 2, 1 for roast tomorrow and 1 for DD2. Managed to shoehorn the other 2 into the freezer. I also got 2 Cressingham ducks they were £3.99 each, I've cooked 1, I removed the breasts & froze them, cooked the carcass and picked the meat off and made duck in Hoi sin sauce to go with our hm chinese last night. YS pork ribs were cooked in BBQ sauce, delish. Also grabbed 4 packs of mince was £5 down to £1.50 each plus loads more stuff, the total bill was huge, didn't realize that saving so much money was so expensive. :rotfl::rotfl: At least we're stocked up.
Lovely and sunny here so will mow the lawn before I pick up DGD2, she is staying here until tomorrow night.
    I hope all have a good w/end.
CANDY, How did your Mum get on, did you manage to find out what the problem is ?
BEMUZED, Hope your Son can get some MH help, you can't put your life on hold forever. ((( hugs)))

  • Morning all,

Sistercas I am a nervous wreck at interviews, and have even been known to cry :o the best remedy I have found is Kalms for a week or so beforehand and eating a banana an hour or two before, not sure of the reason, but bananas have some sort of calming property apparently. Anyway, the last twice I did this, and did really well! :)

OH is home as some of you will have seen on FB. my dog is currently at the bottom of the stairs crying to get.up to him :rotfl: No plans for tbe day, I am looking after a friend's DS, so will bake them some treats and do the ironing, a.d we'll play board.games, etc.

    Hugs to everyone.
