there you go then - I thought your question was confusing based on thread title - unless you get it in writing you arent free from the contract and shouldnt withhold any payments or cancel DD's expecting it to just go away...
  • I started this thread for some advice because vodafone have changed the price of my contract mid term. If they didnt then obviously I would wait until my 24 months were up to leave, and not cancel my DD, however they did.

In changing the price of my contract it clearly states on the ofcom website im allowed to leave penalty free. However vodafone have not responded to any of my letters hence im cancelling my DD.

Im cancelling my DD as I dont want my paying it to be seen as accepting the price rise. Im not just randomly cancelling my DD for the sake of it

Yes, I understand what you are doing and I can see why you 'think' its a good idea, but infact its not - you should never cancel a DD over a dispute, as this could be deemed as you breaking contract and being liable for the total amount - the 'stamp your feet' method doesn't work with mobile phone companies - you have the proof the letter was delivered as you sent it by trackable means.

Bear in mind lots of customer swill be trying to do the same thing in a vary short space of time so there could be delays in letter responses.

Either way, cancelling your DD is a very bad idea...

Anyone who cancels a DD in a circumstance like this is absolutely barmy.

It will lead to a trashed credit record at the least.

I would be extremely surprised if Vodafone allow the contract to be terminated short, but would be interested to hear from the OP if that is the outcome.

If they do agree to terminate the contract, then it should mean that they should have made this clear to everybody who has received a price rise and could well mean that they have breached regulations.

I would say that the best place to enquire would be the Vodafone forums, where I'm sure someone would be able to confirm very quickly what's what.

O2 broadband upped their prices and the email from them, clearly told people they could end their contracts early.
  • Its on the ofcome website clear as day in black and white I have the right to cancel. I don't see why I should continue to pay a contract which vodafone has clearly breached. I don't see how that's barmy.

Thanks for the advice and replies. I've taken what you have both said on board and will continue to pay the DD under protest and will inform vodafone of this in yet another letter.

Vodafone are still refusing to do anything about it so I'm requesting they send me a final response in a letter so I can contact the communication services ombudsman. I just cant believe vodafone are being so hard minded about this. I was hoping conmen sense would prevail
  • They have offered me a £1 discount on my bill to make up for the price rise lol

Sorry for the off-topic ... I notice boomstyliemikey's posts are with a pale-green background colour yet all others have a white background. Is this normal? (i.e. are OP posts in their threads always like this? If yes I've not noticed this before). :)
