Morning everyone,
Don't know why I'm up early when I went to bed so late. Will probably go back to bed and have a nap in a wee while. No plans today except housework of some kind. A spend-free weekend for me hopefully.
Have a great day. x"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Morning everyone,
There were some interesting debates on here yesterday, fascinating reading.
Roz, my thoughts are with your sister.
Jellycat, I hope things are a little better now, and the same to anyone else who cannot see the light at the moment. Hugs and a little hope to all who need, would like or feel they can accept it, and especially to those who don’t.
Weird Recipe of the Day
This was sent to me in the post, a page from the Sunday Sun newspaper. I do hope I’m not in breach of copyright in sharing this, I’ve given full accreditation, and it really is a classic but if it has to be removed, apologies for getting it wrong.
Recipe for Classic Cormorant (READ TO THE END)
From Willie Menzies Weekes Fowler’s book “Countryman’s Cooking” Published by Excellent Press
“I must give you the classic recipe for the preparation and cooking of a cormorant…
Having shot your cormorant, hold it well away from you as you carry it home… these birds are exceedingly verminous and the lice are said to be not entirely host specific…
Hang up by the feet with a piece of wire, soak in petrol and set on fire. This treatment both removes most of the feathers and kills the lice. When the smoke has cleared away, take the cormorant down and cut of the beak. Send this to the local Conservancy Board who, if you are in the right area, will give you 3/6d or sometimes 5/- for it.
Bury the carcass, preferably in a light sandy soil, and leave it there for a fortnight. This is said to improve the flavour by removing, in part at least, the taste of rotting fish. Dig up, skin and draw the bird.
Place in a strong salt and water solution and soak for 48 hours. Remove, dry and stuff the bird with whole, unpeeled onions… the onions skins are supposed to bleach the meat to a small extent so that it is very dark brown instead of being entirely black.
Simmer gently in seawater – to which two tbsp of chloride of lime have been added – for six hours. This has a further tenderising effect. Take out of the water and allow to dry. Meanwhile make up a stiff paste of methylated spirit and curry powder. Spread this mixture liberally over the breast of the bird.
Finally, roast in a very hot oven for 3 hours. The result is unbelievable. Throw it away. Not even a starving vulture would eat it.”
Enjoy the weekendMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Oh RacyRed - horrid. I remember Gordon Ramsay trying to eat cormorant on one of his shows. It looked disgusting. Like the end of the recipe tho.
I'm off to read yesterday's thread. Typical, the one day I don't have a look and it's all happening. (By the sounds of things, as I say I haven't read yet so I hope I'm not being insensitive.)
Loads and loads of washing to do today. Need to clean kitchen. Have dropped flylady for the last couple of days (sorry moggins) being at work really knocks me for 6.
Right - off to feed kids and oh. Scrambled eggs for DH and DS, DD will probably have toast."You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
DLB - just caught up on your info.
Well done you for adopting - my brother is adopted (we "got" him when he was 13 months) He's always known this, but it makes absolutely no difference. He's part of the family the way me and my sisters are. I always think adopting is a brave thing to do - dunno why, we don't know what we're going to get when we have the kids the "normal" way. Means you're helping a child to have a great life. Sounds like it anyway. Yaaay you.
Right - off to get stuck into the debate on education. Interesting to read your views. I've always wanted to be a primary teacher (got a job for a year after university - then got used to the money and am still working.:rotfl: ) Been seriously reconsidering what I'm doing the past week or so (New Year syndrom) and am looking into things.
edit - however looking at my grammar in this post I shouldn't be allowed to teach "me and my sisters" - you wouldn't know I have an MA(Hons) in Latin - it was a looooong time ago."You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
Good morning everyone
Got up early to make sure I don't miss the postperson, but still no sign of anyone yet. At least it means I got to catch up on the thread before it was 6 pages longUsually takes me at least an hour to get through everything!
Not sure exactly what we're doing today. Got a John Lewis voucher for christmas which is burning a hole in my pocket, so might debate wandering into town to see what I can get. I must have a look through my craft boxes and see what I have, which will give me an idea what else I can buy more ofNeed to do the usual tidy etc. I think we might have bacon softies for breakfast since I'm up
*hugs* to all, hope you have as good a saturday as possible :j0 -
Morning All
DLB: Sounds like that you are an amazing family, your children sound fantastic definately a credit to you and your OH.
DD eventually went to bed at 10pm and woke up at 7.45am so shes going to be a monster today. She really needs a good 13 hours to funtion properly. DH came in and went straight to bed at about 11pm and I got the cold shoulder treatment all night, hes still there now and I'm not expecting him to surface before 11am.
Getting on with some jobs in aminute and later on will proberbly go to the park or the Wacky Warehouse if the weather doesnt perk up abit.
Have a good day everyoneSorting my life out one day at a time0 -
joannas mum please don't feel bad about shouting at dd it is not the worst thing in the world. you have been through a lot lately and perhaps are under stress, dd not settling being the straw that broke the camels back? you mentioned that you are the only one who can settle her - is this because only you try? get hubbie involved with nighttime routines bathing, storytime, bedtime. even if this is only a few times a week it will make a big difference to you and let you have some 'me' time. plus your dd will not be so clingy or reliant on you. obviously your OH has been through the same stuff and perhaps he would like to get more involved. it might have been better if he had volunteered instead of storming out. next time you feel like shouting just do what crazychick suggested and go out to the shop or a drive or walk, leaving Dh incharge. when my hubbie's kids were little it was his responsibility to do bedtime routines, he enjoyed this and gave him time to bond with them as he was working all day. having said that i think every night was a bit much as he worked from 6am till 7pm and also needed some 'me' time
roz - you sound like a fab big sister. re your nasty neighbour, i'm surprised the police are ignoring you. i would be tempted to tell a fib anominously and say that they are fighting etc. maybe you should check out a neighbour from hell forum and get advice what to do next. sounds like he should get an asbo. are they the ones who chuck stuff in your garden? if not get them an asbo too, thats what they are for. good luck.
hubbie woke me at 7 am going to the loo so i got up at 8.30 after i couldn't get back to sleep. i've been eating leftover takeaway chinese curry for brekkie. lol! think we are going to go to the local car boot shortly to look for bargains, it's indoors so the weather doesn't matter. hugs to all. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
Good Morning All - Hope we are well
Im so sorry if I confused people with the date! Im loosing the plot! I would appreciate if anyone could change the date for me on the main page, as I dont know how to! Thanks
Joannasmum, (((hugs))), hope DH starts talking to you soon, its not nice being in that kind of atmosphere, I was there not long ago with my OH.
OH been to the sorting office and collected my belated Christmas present. Now he's searching the local "AD MAG" for a car. He said I could have a lie in on Sat, no chance there, as he woke me up getting his clothes. I might sneek off to bed this afternoon, once my jobs are done. No chance for a lie in on Sunday either, as DD is at a party at 10.30, then Ive got to go with my mum to a local venue as they have a wedding fayre on!
Anyway, have a great day all - take care - love as usual xxxHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
