Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 15th september. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well
morning all
up at silly o'clock. couldnt sleep. have ironed all clothes ready to be packed away. trying to take minimal clothes but just keeping adding to it
have packed ds' suitcase with a few books and toys and will put some snacks in tomorrow. should keep him occupied for the journey.
not sure what else today is going to bring. feeling lousy with this cold still and spent most of yesterday in bed. hope to have a snooze later on today. think thats just wishful thinking though
anyway have a good day all

Hi Lou and All Who Follow xx
Hope you start to feel better soon Lou and that you enjoy your holiday.
Beth - hope your DD is feeling better.
An up and down night for me so I will be tired later. I did have a really good day yesterday and very busy as I looked after Mooloo's DGD after nursery as Mooloo is unwell. We had a lovely time together :T:T:T
Today I am taking her into nursery and then will need to organise some cleaning as no cleaner this week:(:(:( I shall be nudging DD to move on her washing and then to don her apron and do her Mrs Mop impersonation.
My letter arrived yesterday - they only bl00dy sent it second class :eek::eek: It is the news I was hoping for :T:T:T Big relief but tinged with sadness but Im relieved.
Have a good day whatever you are up to xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hi Lou, Molly and all who follow,
Glad your news was good Molly.
Get well soon to everyone who is suffering with this cold at the moment, the whole country seems to have it.
It is really dark this morning but the sky is a beautiful pinky red colour, enjoying looking at it in the peace before everyone gets up!
WM is on and I am just about to make the packed lunches.
Hugs to all that need them.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all
Molly glad your letter finally arrived finally.
I'm stll picking beans from the garden & lettuce & toms, but it's getting colder so it won't be for much longer.
Hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup, fish fed, breakfast eaten.
Work has now calmed down to the extent that I don't fall asleep immediately after tea, & I'm able to get a few jobs done in the evening & last night I did a little crochet during 'Who do you think you are'.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Not been on for a few days hope all is well. Finished my nights for this week. The need for me to find an alternative job has really hit home as we've all been told that our ward is closing and we've all got to apply for our own jobs. Am in a state of shock at the mo and am trying not to panic as there will be 40 of us across 2 wards applying for 20 jobs. Thankfully I'm in the RCN so at least I have access to advice.
MOLLY glad your news is good
Plan today to push on with jobs in the house, have to do a tip run and I think I'll fix the shed roof as it's a nice day. Have joined WW online in an attempt to loose 2 stone, so far so good.
Big hugs to all in need today.
Have a good day all

Morning all, I came on early to update my grocery challenge so thought I would say hi.
Off to school in a minute armed with a huge brick of fresh yeast from Mr S, this means all classes with double lessons will be making bread for the next few weeks:D
Hope everyone has a good dayI was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Beth I hope you DD is better today, sending you all positive thoughts x
So this morning I have already put the BM on, the boys are absolutly loving having HM bread at school/work, and hate to tell me it's much better then my hand-made bread
LOL I don't really mind, since I have to agree, but they boys will be going through 4-5 loaves a week so I have to get into a routine of getting it on first thing everyday. I feel so good to watch DS9 eating it this morning and knowing he's not eating too much salt, or preservatives. I feel like a better parent
Anyway, last night DS9 had a big heart-to-heart, his Nana's funeral is tomorrow, and he's so worried that now she's gone things are going to be worse at his dad's. Because whenever she was poorly, his weekends at his dad's have become boring and his dad doesn't listen to him about school (because he tells DS he's trying to make out he's stupid), eats in his room watching TV and basically ignores DS unless DS bugs him and then he get's shouted at and given chores, then shouted at because he can't remember all the chores!
Poor baby! He just tries to spend as much time as he can outside playing by himself. He said when Nana was well things were always better because Nana paid attention to him, asked him about school, made sure he ate right and just cared. He is just scared, because he knows things will never be the same at his dad's. I had him sobbing his heart out last night for 45 minutes and my heart breaks for him!
But what can I do? I am going to talk to my ex, but just try and tell him that to help DS greive over his Nana's death he should try and do more of what she did, like eat at the table, talk to DS about school (nod and smile when you don't understand something), and to talk to him in the evening's about what is happening the next day, what chores he has (write them down) and that way DS knows where he stands because he needs structure. I am hoping coming at it a different way might work!?!
Anyway, today I have to get the washing on, fold up the last load of washing, tidy the house, look after a friends 2 year old (last time I had him he tripped outside the house before he got here and banged his head hard and after half an hour he put on his bag and told me he was going home...!) I have to slice bread and think about dinner because my meal plan is completly out of the window!
Hope everyone has a great day,

Molly, so pleased your letter came and it was the news you wanted. Loulou, hope you feel better soon.
Lovely and bright here again today. WM is on and i will have time to get it out on the line before i leave for work. Hopefully it will dry.
Hope to get the allotment finished today at some stage. Going to pick the rest of the runner beans over there and then get the plants up. They are not looking great.
Hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all
Washers on as per usual. Need to walk into the village this morning to pay bills and get a few bits like cereals for the kiddies. Showing the eldest (12) how to make lasagna tonight for tea when he gets home from school, he wants it for tea he can learn to make it himself. Starting to prepare for wintertime/christmas here. Stocking up on things like uht milk incase of a cold snap and other supplies. Not really in the middle of nowhere but two flakes of snow and the shops clear out of bread and milk. Do people just eat sandwiches and drink milk when it snows? I dont get why they feel the need for 20 loaves of bread. People worry me.
Just having a coffee before cracking on and taking the kids up to school.
Hugs to all that need themSometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait

Morning everyone looks like its going to nice day here for a change.
Need to strip the beds and do some washing today hopefully it stays dry so I can get them out on the line.
Then want to tidy the spare room up abit and get rid of some rubbish.
Also there are a few things in there I want to put on ebay so that will take up most of my day.
Not sure whats for tea yet will have a look in the freezer soon.
Trying to use my freeze and cupboards up without spending too much.
As finance went out the window when son was here, so I now need to rein it in and keep track of what I spend.
Hope everyone is well
Sending postive thoughts to who need them:)Taking it one day at a time0 -
Morning all,
Having a grumpy day today. First of all Hubby is working from home today...he's marking dissertations, which involve a lot of stamping around and yelling abuse at the more ridiculous sections of his students' work. Not peaceful! Don't get me wrong, he really likes his students and wants them to pass but half the time they seem to do the complete opposite of what he's asking, which puts him in a foul mood.
Secondly he has to take the car for a service which means (1) money and (2) I have to drive there and back in the second car to give him a lift back after drop off. Both ends. This bites into my day big style. And he'll moan about the car too. My car, that is, because mine is the kiddy taxi and is always a mess.
Thirdly we've got a couple coming for dinner on Sunday. Note I do not say "friends". She is a moaning whatever that will spend her time making so called joking comments on the state of our house, he will sit there and smile benignly and say very little but you just know when they leave they'll be discussing us in minutest detail on the drive hime. Why are they invited at all, you may ask? Well, it wasn't my idea, but also she's off in for a mastectomy on Tuesday and wanted to fill in time before this to help her take her mind off things, also not have to do as little cooking as possible the week or so before to save money she'll need after. At least that's what she told me when she phoned up to ask herself along. Oh well, I am feeling sympathetic (as you would, wouldn't wish BC on anyone after all) so we'll get on with things but I'm fighting the craven impulse to do a massive cleaning blitz before she comes. She'll still make comments so why bother?
Grrr.....oh well, it's good to have a moan about these things, eh?
What am I doing OS today? Well I have a backlog of bags of soft fruit and brambles building up in the freezer so it's time to make mixed berry jam today, I think. Need to make bread, soup and find something in the freezer to go with the other half of the potato and broccoli cheese bake I made yeasterday. If I find enough whoopsied lamb I will be able to make lamb curry on Sunday so I think I'll turn out the freezer today as well. And I have a pile of towels and bedlinen needing washed...it's sunny today, so better do that asap.
Have a nice day, all.Val.0
