Not a problem with me, it's small enough and I appreciate the extra security level. Have to say I find it much less painful than the on-screen keyboards which some institutions use / have used.

Anyone know, out of interest, whether HSBC issues temporary passcodes if your device breaks / is lost?

Like your good self I think that the secure key is great, I know that nothing is totally fool proof but this system cannot be far off. I just cannot think of any way around the secure key. I am amazed that so many people are against it, in this day and age with cyber crime on the increase the secure key is a god sent. In my opinion HSBC have gone from having the weakest logging on process to the best.

If your secure key is lost or broken then you can walk into any HSBC branch and get a new one there and then. If for some reason you are unable to get to a branch then you have to wait a few days whilst they post one to you. All the best.

Well, you think so because you're a moron. You don't know anything about online security, nor online fraud.

Your post does not say anything good about you. The submission which seemed to have riled you makes a lot of sense.

  • My partner is with HSBC and and still uses internet banking regularly, it works out to about weekly. It's still more convenient than making the 20 minute walk to the nearest cash point every time we want to check the balance or the 40 minute bus journey to the bank every time we want to make a money transfer, or making a premium rate phone call. At first he wasn't keen on the key but it is for security and he simply keeps it by his computer at home, which is the only one he uses for internet banking so it's there when he needs it and won't get lost. It's not stopped him using internet banking. I don't see the big problem.

And if you lose or break the device abroad?

Contact your bank, the same as if you lose or break your bank card abroad.
  • I know it's a personal thing but moving to another bank just because of the Securekey rollout seems a bit over the top. In a way I'm glad HSBC have upped their online security anyway because I always felt a little uneasy about the old system.
