Wait, so have these been fully rolled out now? I haven't received anything and the link has vanished to let me skip registering the securekey and just see my accounts, so I haven't been able to transfer money to my partner for bills etc for a couple of weeks. I complained about it and they want me to phone them, but I'd much rather just go to the cashpoint than speak to any of them. (pro hermit!)0

I hardly use it any more. All this security is really off-putting. I understand that they have to do it but I have made my HSBC account into a secondary account that I only use when necessary.0

I find the secure key a real hassle and am considering changing banks in the next few months.0

A lot of people on this forum want to close their HSBC accounts as a result of the secure key being implemented. My gut feeling is that at some point in the not to distant future all banks will have a similar device for on line banking. If after a year or so the HSBC secure key has wiped out on line banking fraud then we will most certainly see other banks following suit.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
It's so bloody annoying, I never had any issues with the old authentication system, if HSBC are worred about keyloggers and phishers, they need to look at a software solution, rather than a dumb securekey device.
ING direct has an onscreen keypad with scrambled numbers that was probably designed to effectly target phishers and keyloggers, why not use a system similar to that? This HSBC securekey is so damn annoying.
Had they not helped me immensely during my student days with very generous interest free overdraft facilities, I would have changed banks by now.0 -
HSBC effectively stopped me from using their credit card long time ago, when they introduced the "swipe" thing allowing for small purchases to be made without a signature or pin.
The clever cloggs behind the technology didn't realise that in London we use oyster cards which I believe uses the same technology, and the HSBC mastercard was interfering with my oyster card when I tried to touch in with my wallet.
So I took out the mastercard and haven't used it in 2 years.0 -
Ok, so It is annoying to have to have 'another' thing to do/remember, to log into my bank account.. but it really doesnt take that long to log in.. I Imagine that all banks will probably go down the same route eventually!
I do agree with PPs though.. if they just gave it you to use when transferring money to anyone it would be better. but thats just my opinion.
My husband however has great issues with it, as everytime he goes to use it, he discovers he forgot to put it back in his wallet from the time before.. thus 30 minute strop at moi until I find the key myself where he's apparently 'looked' before :rotfl:Living in our forever house!

I find this disturbing!0 -
Not a problem with me, it's small enough and I appreciate the extra security level. Have to say I find it much less painful than the on-screen keyboards which some institutions use / have used.
Anyone know, out of interest, whether HSBC issues temporary passcodes if your device breaks / is lost?0
