Do you use it considerably less now compared to before those annoying secure keys were introduced? Has the key greatly impacted the user experience of internet banking for you?

I used to login several times a week, and now I rarely login twice a month!

It also means you have to carry the bloody key with you, and find it, to login. Login is quick, but now takes 2 or 3 times longer than before.

If the key is to protect against phishing emails getting peoples login details, I cannot understand why you need to use the secure key just to see your balances - surely you should only need the secure key to setup new payees (and confirm existing ones)?

  • Far less. My account aggregation software logs me into all my accounts automatically, apart from HSBC.

I never thought the secure Key would be as much of a pain as it is. Today, I wrote my closure letter and posted it, so it's bye bye HSBC account, which is a shame, as IMO they have the best of the internet banking services.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D
  • Only when I need to! Seriously considering changing banks now!
  • I do the banking for most of my family as none have a PC
    An absolute pain
As previously said, used to log in a couple of days per week to keep an eye on my balances, now down to maybe twice a month, perhaps thats what they want - customers NOT being able to keep an eye on their accounts!

On the upside - HSBC internet banking has never been as fast and reliable during the evening - its because no one is using it anymore :D

Oh dear, HSBC, you appear to have shot yourself in the foot

Anyone want to bet they backtrack on this, like Nationwide did?

Already left and gone to First Direct after the first week of using the new secure device. I don't think an about face will be enough to entice me back.

Expect First Direct(owned by HSBC) to introduce something similar..

Not any time soon. They haven't changed their infrastructure in 3-4 years, no reason to expect them to do anything for another 3-4.

oh gosh it annoys me sooooo much! I have even resorted going to the cash point to get a balance because I couldn't find the keypad.

    Back to the dark ages.

  • This is what First Direct said on twitter about 2 factor authentication:
Whilst looking at 2FA we don't yet know what this will look like for us and there is no date for its introduction at present.

Same with me. Although I am now working, I have a tablet, I always leave my keyfob at home and load up the HSBC website on my commute, then realising I can't login :(
