Hey people,
I'm looking to get one of those Virgin TiVo boxes in my room. But hell am i paying £40 for them to install it! I already have all the cables in my room (i have all the broadband etc set up in there). Although not directly related, i earn my living with computers and technology in general. Is this £40 compulsory? Seems a bit steep for a guy to come out and plug a box in that i could do myself.
Cheers.

The's more to it than plugging the box in. Checking the return & forward path for one, setting the signal levels with attenuators or equalisers not to mention splitting the connection for additional feeds.Checking the engineer menu to check Reed Soloman levels, input the PIN number...
If I had a quid for every time I'd been to a fault as a homeowner had moved the cable box/bband himself & mucked it up,I'd have enough for a good night out & a slap up meal!
Cable TV is a lot more complicated than Sky or Terrestrial.0 -
£40 to install is the least of your problems...£49.99 activation fee on TiVO too0

I set up the V+ HD box at my Dads place and it was no trouble. I thought a lot of the main work was done during the initial installation. £100 to get a box put in is a bit steep for me at the moment! :L
Well the website said i'd have to pay about £90, £50 for activation, £40 installation. Still steep!0 -
Tivo has free install, not sure where your getting the £40 from0
-
For new customers yes
- Well thats what the guy said on the phone anyway.

Im trying hard to fathom why it costs £50 more to "activate" the 1tb box compared to the 500gb??0

Dont call it an activation fee then, call it a lifetime warranty fee, makes it go down easier0

Just thought I'd add this, I rang Virgin yesterday to upgrade our TV package from L to XL and asked about a V+HD box the lady at the call centre suggested a Tivo box free installation and £49.00 activation fee there's also a £3 charge for the Tivo works out at £15 extra a month.
Not sure weather to go with this or not as been looking around and seems to be lots for negitive reviews with people moaning about how slow it is and poor picture quality.
Also just to add the lady said if we wanted a V+HD box then there would be a £40 install charge plus the activation fee.0 -

Try the TiVo and if you don't like it you can send it back0
