Is the name(ssid) the same as my login user name?0

Sorry you've lost me:o, is 06 someone elses router? do I need to change it?
a wifi connection has several attributes attached to it...
1. the wifi channel it operates on (6 in your case by the sound of it)
2. the name of the network, known as the SSID (this can be changed to whatever you want on most routers, it will have a default name set from the factory, so it could be your logon name if you've set it up like that, but pick something that you will recognise in future)
3. the security it uses (WEP, WPA, WPA2 etc.) which has a password ( or WPA key, WEP key, network key - all different terms for essentially the same thing)
All this is set within the router. In order to connect a device to your wifi connection (be it laptop, xbox, ps3, phone, etc) the normal way of doing this is to scan for available wifi channels ON THE DEVICE. It will list those it can see by the SSID. You then select your network from the list, enter the network key, and hey presto !!
BUT, if your SSID is hidden, then the device you're trying to connect to it can't see it, hence DCM's step above about using unspecified networks. This is why I'm thinking you may be trying to connect the box to someone else's router, and hence why your network key won't let you connect to it ('coz it will be using their network key)..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

is the network key the same as the passphrase on netgear?0

^^^ yes, but are you trying to connect the xbox to YOUR router ???
first, establish what your SSID is. You'll need to log into the router again to do this. Somewhere in the wireless settings will be an option to broadcast or hide your SSID. Make sure this is set to broadcast (or unhide) your SSID. Then, in the xbox networking page search for networks and make sure you select YOUR SSID, then enter your passphrase.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
