  • You again  aaargh ,
Morning, I would suggest you use WPA2 for security on your router it's more secure than WEP so look here http://documentation.netgear.com/wgr614v9/enu/202-10308-01/WGR614v9-04-07.html , then go to PS3 and change the settings to Wireless , but do not change the IP address since we have sorted the port forwarding , I guess that bit is further up in this thread I will have a look in a sec.

  • The PS3 bits from Portforward are here - change it from wired to wireless and put in the password you used in the previous post (make it difficult to guess) http://portforward.com/networking/staticip-ps3-playstation-3.htm

Before you change the connection from the wired connection, note down the IP address/subnet mask/Default router/Primary DNS from the Settings > Network > Settings and Connection Status List, then follow the guide posted by DCM.

By taking down the settings mentioned above, you will avoid having to set up the port forwarding again.

Sorry where do i go for these?

Ok have put a password in, went on xbox it asked for one for the wpa2, but it has not worked... there's bound to be something I am missing here?:o Should i be doing something to the router itself? Have taken out cable for xbox, anything else? Do I need to take all cables out, move the router it?Thanks for everyones help again. Have not even got to the ps3 yet!
  • Not fully awake yet , must make another coffee, but have a look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908877

And let us know which Xbox you have , not an expert on any of these boxes at all.

just a general observation on the whole port-forwarding thing....

it really depends on the firmware setup of your router as to how much port forwarding you have to do. For e.g. on my D-Link 2640B routers, fw v4.01 is mre locked down than v3.06. On my ps3, using v4.01 gives NAT failures, but 3.06 gives NAT type 2 :) If you look at the changelog, one of the main differences from 3.06 to 4.01 was to revamp the ports that are open by default, so 4.01 needs more ports opened manually, and this seems to be a general trend especially on newer routers :(

For the OP's current predicament - are you sure you're trying to connect to YOUR router or a nearby one ??? Have you turned off the wifi in the router interface ?? On the xbox (and the ps3) all you should need to do is go ino the dashboard, to the system settings, network settings, search for your router and enter the wpa2 key. You may have to change the security in the router interface for wpa2.
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
