Did he change the wiring from the shower switch to the consumer unit

Does the consumer unit have an RCD?

NO just shower to switch, no.

The quote is from the email he sent me not me no, via email, since we have had others and one quoted £80 so we are going with him, £80 to £427 amazing:eek:

The £80.00 job only does part of the job- the requirement is for a larger cable for the shower circuit, not only the bit from the switch to the shower.

This is a prime reason where the cheapest quote isn't always the best- I'm not saying the £427 quote was fair, but I am saying the £80.00 was too cheap

The shower has NO rcd and only around 25% of the shower circuit has been rewired - I presume the Triton guy didn't recomend rewirine only part of the circuit.
As the shower has NO rcd the shower isn't installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions (or the current wiring regs)

It was £110 in the end with the new shower switch he went out and bought and a bit more for his time that he spent on what he said would be a simple job but ended up a bit more complicated:D

yes but as the bald one has pointed out - your electrician has not done the job properly, so that's why it's so cheap!

The shower worked before (until it went wrong), the situation now is the manufcturer has told you to take a certain course of action- which you have failed to do

They would be within their rights to charge you for any subsequent visits as stated in their gurantee

They gave you advice and you have chosen to ignore it.

The shower may work , but is might not be safe - just think about it -the shower is the most risky place - you're wet, naked and using electricity....

I don't really know why you bothered to post here and ask for advice when you've ignored it anyway.

    Good luck

I did not necessarily ignore it because I am calling the electrician back for the £300 overhaul with certificate just not right now, not this second as you can understand £300 is a lot of money and have to save a bit each month for it but will have it done so thank you

The guarantee expires on the 10th, they said it was nothing to do with them and charged me £68 for a call out that they took 2 mins in my house, laughing all the way, so they above all else are happy that is for sure:D They won't be called back, it was not the shower, can't waste like that is for sure:D

    That was partly my point
I see a very high proportion of incorrectly installed showers (some really bad, some just marginal) - many people don't follow (or even open) the manufacturers instructions.

In my opinion and from your posts I think you
    1. Don't seem to care about following instructions
    2. Don't seem to care about the saftey of the bathroom electrics
    3. Show disdain for a manufacturer that tells you in writing what is required (instructions) you then ignore it and then moan when they charge you for a failed engineer visit
    4. When told in person by a shower engineer you fail to follow instructions AGAIN and go for the cheap (and incorrect option)
I don't normally have a pop at people in forums, so I aplologise to to others in this forum for the following statements

    This reminds me of 2 sayings;
    • If you make something idiot proof nature produces a better idiot
    • If it sounds too cheap to be true, it usually is - I refer to the shower electrics 'fix' you had cobbled
    Rant over..................
