From your own link I quote "A recent survey revealed that one in six (15%) young disabled people said they had been turned down for a paid job, and told it was for a reason related to their disability or health problem"-- and all the time you thought I was a moaner who was unfairly harsh on employers-- but it seems I am not.[/quote]

Oy!! Find me a post where I said that. I have just provided you with a source so you can back up your arguments

Sorry, not you personally, but people like to say that I moan and I just look for problems about these matters when maybe I dont.

Phil - I've been turned down for a job because of my 'disability', and I've not once complained. Get over it - there are loads of jobs, you don't need special help or anything, you go out there and you get what you want BY YOURSELF. You can do it, you just choose not to.

    Yeah I know!

We shall see in July or September how long it take me to find a job.

  • I dont think you get any favours as a disabled person.

The last interview I went to I did not even get any adjustments at interview, so I am not so sure myself.

If you have been applying and attending interviews does this mean you have given up the course?

What adjustments would you have liked at interview? Did you give the prospective employer any indication you would need any?

I ask as a friend has been looking at a part time job but has a standing problem, she has very weak legs due to her bones. She always indicates via a phonecall beforehand she will require a seat whether in the waiting area or interview room.

No I have not given up my course. I was talking about a summer job I applied for there. I said to them that I was not very good on steps and they said they would interview me down stairs, but when I got there they had no rooms available down stairs. Now that is not really acting in good form I don't think.

If I am wrong in thinking that employers are not right positive about disabled employees or not.

shouldn't that read ' I will be apply for a job to start in the summer then?'

I thought you course would've ended by then.

Who did you apply to? If the rooms should've been booked to have an interview in then it is bad form but also did they not offer a 2nd interview then? I know it would've presented more logistical problems.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
3% of staff for firms over 3000 staff. I dont thing it is expressly you have to be registered disabled as not every disabled person is registered.

It is a patterned theory of equality. The idea is 3 per cent of people in the general population are diasbled so the workforce should reflect that.

There is no longer any "quota system". It was abolished by the DDA (1995). It also abolished the registration of disabled people for employment purposes. However, many local authorities hold a register of disabled people for the purposes of providing their services, but this is not the same thing at all. To be covered by the DDA a person need only fit the criteria laid down by the Act.

And you have seen an advert for jobs aimed specifically aimed at disabled people. Disabled graduates at that. Or you would have done if you had clicked on the link I gave you many, many moons ago in another deja vu thread. :)
