I buy their diet lemonade at 18p a 2 litre bottle, and Branston baked beans were 87p for 4 large tins.

Their fruit is usually excellent quality too, though sadly the veg leaves a lot to be desired.
  • I too would be lost without Lidl, I do my weekly shop there and have never had a problem. The staff are very friendly and chat as we go there every week so they know us now.

Food is excellent quality, I take my own bags so no problem there, no loud music blaring, cheap prices, whats not to like?

Id never even heard of either until I moved to Manchester for uni a few years back and saw an Aldi there and went in once. Then they opened I think a Lidl in the town centre, but I didnt like the bringing your own bags thing purely because they used to chuck the stuff so fast down the checkout there was barely time to get a bag out let alone put stuff in it!

Now Im back down south I havent been in one for about..7 years? There arent any where I live, wouldnt even know where the nearest one was.

But apparently theyre building a Lidl about 2 miles away so will be interesting to see what its like when it opens. Its an affluent area but I suspect there will be lots of people going to it.
  • Lilds is my favourite shop, I dont know why people slag it off - it's not mega cheap or dirty looking.
You also get freebies if youre lucky on a Sunday! I've had allsorts free: plants, flowers, chocolates, frozen food!

Unfortunately they dont deliver so I have Asda stuff mostly.

  • Oops sorry for spamming, but just wanted to recommend the Lidls cleaning wipes. I think they are £1.59 and the pack is massive. Great for wiping over the benches and kidies high chairs. I love the lavendar and sea breeze ones.

  • I love Lidl's cleaning products, i usually make a trip there every 2-4 months, to stock up on everything i use.
I'm a vegetarian and find lidl very hard to use as a regular supermarket, because all i would be able to eat would be pizza, or soups.
But i think now people are struggling with their money, and food shopping is getting very hard to do on a budget, i've seen a huge change in people shopping in places like lidl or aldi.

They sell lovely Camembert burger things, look to see if you can get them when they are on offer as they are a bit pricey, they also do stilton ones. They started selling Quorn sausages too. I agree there isn't alot else for veggies though.

I've never been a fan of Aldi or Netto but I absolutely love Lidl! The stuff's not only cheap but it's quality too. If you have a problem with anything they can be quite generous. I've emailed them a few times & they've rang me up to discuss the problem within a few days. I love the fact that it's never crowded & the air con's great in the summer. Although I don't buy all my shopping from there it's definitely my favourite. I've never heard of the staff being treated badly, just that the pay is good.
I think they get paid more because they are classed as self employed. Don't quote me, just what someone told me.

Also want to point out their kids clothes are great quality too, although I don't buy any tops with a polo neck as I find them so hard and tight to get over my daughters head.

think this used to be the case years ago in aldi at least as i remember someone saynig they had to sort their own tax and NI out

not the case anymore though, certainly not in lidl :)

I had always been told things like their chicken breasts were reconstituted chicken?

Nope...the chicken breasts are just that and a great deal nicer and less watery than Tesco ones to be honest. If in doubt read the labels...their foodstuffs are labelled just the same as in any other store.
