Why does Lidl get such a slating?

My favourite supermarket, except that Tesco glitches don't help.
I like no cigarettes and no credit cards and no free bags taking thousands of years to decay and no coupons. If ever the Big Boys are sorted it will be like Lidl.
And I like the way different sections have reduced items each week so over a month always something cheap.0 -
I love Lidl (and Aldi).
I am a single parent and work full time and do my weekly shop on a Friday night after work - I can whizz round Lidl and be back to the car in less time than it takes me to queue up in Mr M's. Any bits I can't get I'll pop to one of the big 4 during the week.
I think a lot of it is snobbery, also i think people don't like the packing system. Also people always say they've never heard of the brands but this is usally the same people who love shopping in foreign hypermarkets! Duh!!
For me the quality is better and less choice means I spend less money :TIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey

We have always bought the bulk of our weekly shop at Netto's and whatever they didn't stock we got from Asda which was only 200 yards away. But when Netto's were sold to Asda they closed our Netto store. We had decided to switch to Lidl - about a mile away. We tried it the first week and although the goods were OK, price wise almost everything was on par with Asda's
So to save about £1.50 a week isn't worth the cost of diesel and time it takes so we're sad to say that we're now Asda-ing each week

I honestly always assumed Lidl only ever sold crap, but having lived in France for 2 years and having a Lidl up the road, I couldn't have assumed more wrongly! Their fruit and vegetables are so fresh and so much better tasting than the supermarket fruit & veg. They sell these cashew nuts in tins, they're the best ones I've ever eaten! They sell these cinnamon and vanilla waffley biscuity things in the UK Lidls, mmm they are to die for! Their bread is the only thing that has been a let down from there, a really horrible and odd taste. But in general, I don't think there's anything wrong with Lidl!0

I'm a fan if Lidl. Mainly because it's the only one I can walk to. It has pretty much everything I need. I think people who deride it are the ones who've never shopped there.
Those caramel waffles/stroopwaffels and the custard-filled brioche are first-class, as are the cleaning products/laundry-detergent/toiletries. But sometimes I hanker for more choice and then it's off to Mr T once in a blue moon0 -
I'm not keen on Lidl as I do find it more expensive than the other supermarkets. It might be cheaper if you're used to buying own brand or branded things but their prices don't compare to the value ranges!0

In my opinion most of their brands are better quality than the other supermarket value ranges. Especially all of the things that Germans enjoy and do well, like cheeses, cold meats and chocolate. I just wish they had a better bread selection.0

We split our shopping between asda and Lidl's, I do love Lidls and we will hopefully be getting one open up locally as at the moment we have to make a journey for it. As others have said fruit and vegtables are fresher better quality and reasonably priced depending on offers.0

Snobbery and ignorance, mostly.
Still, it keeps down the queues for the rest of us.import this0 -
I love Lidl (although rarely buy fresh meat - bit hit and miss)
Ham/cheese/youghurts/laundry products are fantastic and their own brand 3ply loo rolls are wonderfull.
Also the tissue packets (you know the pocket size packets about 15 for little over a £1) are the only ones I have found that get lost in pockets (grrrrr) but still come out of the wash in one piece, unlike normal ones which turn into a sticky snow storm when you do a colour wash.
The staff in our local store are really nice too.
