Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 12th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Kettle's on for the first cuppa of the day & it's time I made the packups & drove hubby to the station.
We had a very productive weekend in the garden, yesterday I made 10 packs of mashed potato & dauphinoise potato.
Hubby has planned & costed out putting a permenant gazebo in the garden & the one we used for the wedding is packed away & ready to sell.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Good morning Hester and to those who follow.
Quite windy here today and very chilly. I don't know if the wind is supposed to get worse here.
Had a good weekend. Did all of the ironing and the allotment is now almost sorted :D. We are hoping to have a good year on there next year...that's the plan anyway. I take it you can freeze potatoes, can you?
I had better start getting ready for work. Hope everyone has agood day and stay safe in the wind. Hugs to those who need them.

Good Morning Hester and all who follow. Hope your day is a good one whether at work or at home x

It was a blustery night and DD has to face the ferry crossing home from the IOW. Hopefully she was as snug as a bug in her pod pad (wooden hut)

I had a constructive and OS weekend all in all. We made my soup - Butternut Squash and Cream of leek and Mushroom on Saturday. Then on Sunday we made cakes which rose beautifully as my oven has been repaired:T:T:T. Ds2 made a cooked breakfast (with supervision) which was yummy!

I have to go to the Post Office to return some clothes and send off two parcels which I fear will be quite expensive. Oh well needs to be done. Im also hoping "the letter" will arrive this week and need to do some chasing:(:(:( Im on a liquid diet from midday for 24 hours as prep for a procedure tomorrow. Oh well should help the diet:o:o:o
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Hugs Molly, I hope the letter arrives & that your procedure goes well
FS, you can freeze potaoes, but only after they are cooked or part cooked, otherwise they go black. I froze 10 portions of mashed potato & Daupinoise yesterday
    Hugs Hester

  • Molly, i hope your procedure goes well and that your letter arrives soon.
Thankyou for that Hester, guess what i''ll be doing when i get home from work ;)

Really grotty here today but at least the wind isn't that bad. ExMIL blessing was lovely yesterday, was so proud of DS, helping to carry food, tidying up and getting cups of tea for people. Me and ExOH must have done something right.

Have got the big dog here so shall take him out in a bit. Had a rubbish sleep, hopefully I'l get a bit more sleep today as I'm working tonight. Off to pu beef stew in the SC.

Have a good day all and hugs to all who need one.

Morning Hester and others. I'm up bright and breezy today. Part of the new me plan. Get up with OH and start the day at 0645 rather than lie in until dog wakes me up about 0830. I've already made DH packed lunch, emptied DW, had breakfast, loaded DW and am about to walk hound before doing some work before a new exercise class. Go me. We'll see how long the energy spurt lasts:D

    Have a good day everyone.

Busy day today at work, some staff taking a few days off then I go off late tomorrow afternoon as got op on Wed,good luck to you Molly for tomorrow, hope all goes well. Made a really tasty pot of yellow split pea and ham soup yesterda - probably the best ever! - so have just heated that and put in a flask for lunch, along with a jar of easiyo mango yogurt and HM oatcakes.
Took the knitting out last night to start christmas knitting. DD2 loved my thick fisherman type socks last year so thats what's on the go at the moment.Think at somestage she was wearing them for days on end and they were so smelly!!! She has asked for hunter wellies for christmas so that will make for a nice pressie.

have a good day, and stay safe x

    Morning :hello:

    RIP Andy Whitfield SPARTACUS

    Happy Birthday mrs_mix :bdaycake: _party_

It's really windy here, but it's a warm wind so not too bad.

I haven't been here much because I haven't actually done anything OS, but I'm back to it with a vengeance :D

We had loads of rosehips opposite our house, the council have been along and 'tidied' the hedges. They chopped the lot down

The slow cooker has been taken out of the cupboard for the winter, it's been put to use already and made a chilli. Not much use to me - I can't stand the stuff :D

We've picked more tomatoes so will make more sauce today. Most of the beans have been picked and frozen. The sprouts are doing well, we'll have plenty for Christmas :D

I hid all my craft stuff away, I was terrified of it being ruined. All the dirty and dusty work has been done in the house, so I can get my cards, calendars and notebooks back out to work on them.

    Morning everyone,

The wind is blowing quite strongly here at the moment but I am going to peg the washing out anyway, hopefully I won't come home and find it in next doors garden!

Another working week. I have persuaded the children to make their own packed lunches so all I need to do is clear up the mess afterwards.

Tea tonight is chilli made with left over chicken from yesterdays roast.

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Morning Everyone

So today I had another night littered with dreams and have woken up shattered again! Oh the joys of pregnancy :D

I have lost 1lb this week, I knew I would because my eating is going downhill again, I lost 21lbs at the start of the pregnancy, managed to platue for a while, then for 3 weeks I gained 1 lb a week and was over the moon, only to start loosing again. The weight gain/loss is totally linked to my eating, I had a look last night and i'm only eating 1400 - 1500kcals a day. DH is worried, but I just can't eat much before I feel sick and the heartburn get's me (and I am eating VERY bland food)! I have no appitite because all food hates me

I am not worried about the weightloss too much, only because what I eat is healthy, and I take my vitamins, so baby Roo should be fine, and I still have a few excess fat stores because I am normal :D. But I do think my calorie intake is just too low, and most of it is butter, margarine, yogurt and milk (And considering I take calcium suppliments!) and I hate the smell of meat cooking so I hardly eat it!

I will text my midwife, but she only works PT so I won't hear from her for the best part of this week, and I don't see her for another 4 1/2 weeks!! Such a great service we get :rotfl:

Anyway, today I have to pop to Mr T (hope I don't faint in the que again ) to get some bits for my new bread machine so when it comes it'll go straight on :D

I have to sew on DS9 cub badges, he's really behind, but as I have been so poorly they have been really understanding (they are very strict about badges at cubs) but it's time I sort it out.

Hope everyone has a great day x
