Yep, if it looks clear, use it - what is to go off? If it is cloudy - that would suggest it might be contaminated, so I would bin that one.
Best before dates mean nothing when it comes to food safety - they are about taste only. I doubt anyone would notice the difference between syrup that is beyond its best before and new syrup.Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

yes it will be fine, sometimes the tin makes black marks in the syrup as others say if its clear it will be okOwner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0

have to add my vote - use it! if its cloudy try heating it up to boiling point (you may have to add a little water if it goes too thick). this would sterilise it. honey (which is mostly sugar can also go a little cloudy and heating it clears it again - so my take is that would work with golden syrup).0
