    Define fresh?

4 figure unsettled default less than 2 years previously and they still gave me a new card. That default is now just over 3 years old and they recently bumped my new card limit to around 2k.

It is luck of the draw I think.

Interesting, did you still owe the balance or had you paid it off? not being nosey just curious :)

Balance still owed hence the unsettled default at the time.

I assume they must have flogged the account balance off to a debt collection agency and then closed the account on their system.

Cap 1 are just strange and impossible to predict. I have had a platinum card for many years, never missed a payment, haven't always paid in full, yet never had a credit limit increase. Unlike lloyds who seem to throw them at me all the time.
    It's a health benefit ...

Probably don't make them enough profit.... with my current card I started getting bumped up after I left a small balance on there (hence paying interest).

Either that or they just do a lucky dip for the application and credit increase process!!!!

They made quite a bit of interest of me over the years, just not for the past 3

Having seen this thread, I decided to try Capital one. Having defaulted on them, and them selling the loan on, back in 2006/2007, I thought I'd give them a go...

Applied for a card, and an instant accept, even though I've got a bad credit rating (which I'm now working hard to repair).

    So yes, it is possible.

only difference is their default is not satisfied, this may go against you that is one thing vanquis like settled defaults
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Sorry to hear that however follow Martins advice on here about the credit improvement part and you be having them chuck them at you, as for Capitial One Don't worry about them i got rid of them years ago and Found them to be annoying and terrible to work with.

    see bottom of blog http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score#checker

  • I have just applied for their classic card.

I have a vanquis card which I have had for a year and not missed any payment on, credit limit is £1000.

Santander account with a overdraft of 1600 (never really use it).

Iphone contract which I have had for just over 2 years and never missed a payment on.

    basically never missed anything.

My credit score was 978 last time I checked.

What are the chances of me getting accepted for this card, I didn't get refused but got the 7 day reply msg.
