Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 11th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all. OH is snoring like a freight train, tried sleeping on the sofa, but the dawn and the amount of things I need to get done today put paid to that idea. So have one load of washing on the line as it looks like it might be a fine day, one load in, one load waiting. Will wait until 6am to unload dishwasher and tidy kitchen in case I wake a sleeping child! Found some more things for the car boot next week last night so put them to one side.
OH has requested something light today for lunch before he drives back to work, I'm thinking of jacket spuds, but I'll get a chicken out so that the boys and I can have a roast tomorrow. Need to pop to the sunday market to get fruit and veg - always cheaper there. Will walk dog at some point, but at the moment he's asleep on the sofa beside me. MUST batten down the hatches for this heavy wind that we're expecting over the next few days. Damaging gusts - not my idea of fun.
Off to have a rummage in the kids toy box - see what I can find to car boot - its addictive isn't it?

Good morning, Esmf73 - I hope the weather doesn't get as bad as they have predicted.
We had lovely weather yesterday, sunny and warm, but it did get a bit windier in the evening. I spent most of the day at the holiday home we look after here, getting it ready for guests who arrive on Tuesday. The bedlinen is beautiful but a real pain to iron so, instead of ironing it at home then taking it over there - while it mysteriously gets all creased up again in the car - I iron it in the bedrooms then put it straight on the beds. The garden needed doing as well so, by the time I got back home, I didn't feel like doing any more housework!
Today, I really must do the ironing and some baking, too. Dinner will be roast chicken but, if the weather is as warm as yesterday, it might be with salad instead of veg and gravy.
Hope you all have a good day and I'll catch up with you later.

Well this is better, I didn't get up til 6:30 & for me that counts as a lie in.
I did the washing yesterday & it's all on the line under the Rotaire cover, I know £50 is expensive, but it's proving to be worth every penny, I've also managed to cut down on some of out clothing as I don't have to have enough to last when I can't get stuff dry, because I always CAN get things dry.
Because of the weather forecast Hubby & I took down our 'Wedding Gazebo' we put it up at Easter, meaning for it to be a trial run, but found it to be so useful that we left it up until now & our wedding was in June, lol. Hubby now wants to put up a permanent one & I'm all for it, so that is something else to save up for. He'll build it him self & I know he'll do a good job, we just need to cost out the timber etc. The 'Wedding Gazebo' has been folded up neatly, all the poles have been numbered & I shall put it on Ebay or Gumtree to sell.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning ladies and all to follow,
I am another early riser today, 6.30 for me too. I have a few things on my mind, which are disturbing my sleep, but hopefully I will get them sorted this week and tbat will be that.
More clearing out due today, I never got as much dome as I wantdd yesterday, but its looking much better. Drawers are built in DS' room - they are very impressed with mum's DIY skills
Need to get out for f&v too, there is not a bit in the house,.bar some sprouty spuds.
Have a great day.

Morning all
Last night was very strange here. The skies have never looked so dark and heavy before and around half nine we had a terrific thunderclap followed by torrential rain and high winds. Although it cleared, this morning the land outside is soggy like a wet sponge and the winds are freshening again. The storm is due to hit tomorrow, so everything has been locked down tight or put in as safe a place as we can find.
Today the OH is going to get some garden veg out for me to process for the freezer. All my brussel sprouts plants have blown due to the wet summer we had so I'm just going to blanche and freeze them like cabbage for winter veg.
Hope everyone has a good lazy Sunday and that for those of us in the path of the storm, it isn't a bad one."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -

Doesn't look too bad outside so first lot of washing hung outside, and wm back on again.....I live in hope lol.
I have to run DD2 to work this morning, then might go for a wander around the shops for a short while. If the weather holds I intend taking the dog for a long walk this afternoon to see if I can tire him out, he had me up at 5.45 again this morning, can't seem to get him to realise that it is a weekend:rotfl:
Hope everyone has a lovely sunday

Morning Everyone
I was up at 5am, little Roo started wiggling, and there was no hope of getting back to sleep today!
DS9 woke up so hyper, ate some HM scotch pancakes (he made the batter himself yesterday before i cooked them up) and got showered by 7am!! He's going to be the Crucifer at Church this morning and is just so excited (not sure why, he does it every few weeks anyway!)
Yesterday I finally costed and convinced DH that a Bread Maker was a good investment (Since i've been poorly instead of having hand-made bread we are on value bread YUK) and I can't stand long enough to make bread by hand right now. Plus I have to have Low Gi Bread which is expensive!
I'm spending £4 a week on bread, and can cut that right down to £2.50 and it'll all be fresh and lovely and much less effort then hand-made
Oh and I already have a Bread Slicer, so slicing and freezing is going to be easy
So he agreed to a Panasonic SD-5001WXC which is the best of the best (but it is my Christmas Pressent, that's aparently all i'm getting) and I LOVE it :j
So anyway, today I will be going to Church first thing, then I have to make a new batch of Soup for my lunches and then a Stew for the boys dinner. White and Dark washing need doing too!
Think I should watch a DVD with DS9 this afternoon and have some family time

Morning all,
It is calm and sunny here at the moment after a very stormy night and everything is looking Autumnal and beautiful.
Up early today as I am helping out at church and then a day cooking to prepare me for the coming week.
I spent about 3 hours yesterday peeling and stewing apples for the freezer, my fingers ached when I had finished but I now have loads of apples for crumbles, sponges and pies over the winter.
JulieG I love the picture on your post today!
Hugs to all that need them.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Good morning to everyone and to those who follow.
We had a down pour last night. The dog was reluctant to have a wee before he went to bed. The thing is, once he is out there he doesn't want to come in.
Very dull today. Going over the allotment in a few minutes. Still got a way to go over there, preparing it for winter. Not much else planned for today. I guess the usual ironing at some stage.
Have a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Good morning all and ((hugs)) to all those in need
Another early start for me today - woken by the DDs just before 6am  (I will take revenge when they are teenagers) but I have just been pottering around in a sleepy daze instead of doing anything constructive. It's definitely a 3-coffee morning.
I managed to get all the laundry done at the in-laws yesterday, but we didn't get home until nearly 10pm. Consequently I am going to have to fit in a trip to Mr T today. I am hoping the humungous basket of damp washing that I brought home last night will dry on the line before the weather changes (it looks lovely out there right now).
It's going to be an expensive day  - we've got to sort out a new WM. We've decided against another washer-dryer and will spend a little more on the WM to get a more energy efficient model, plus I will order a Rotaire cover for my washing line (and really hope it works!) to help out in winter.
Dinner today will be some sort of roast (depends what I find when I go to Mr T) followed by mangoes and ice cream - courtesy of MIL who got a bit carried away in the reduced fruit and veg section and bought too many!
Have good days all

JulieGeorgina, that's brilliant :j Until then try a delia bread recipe, I used one for the first time yesterday("Quick and Easy Wholemeal Loaf") which had no kneading and half hour rising time and it was the best loaf of bread I've ever made
Morning all, I thought I was up early not being able to sleep past 8am but 5am eeeeekk!! I don't have much OS to do today, having done two loads of washing and made bread yesterday. So I'll be going into town to "shop"... er pick up free samples from beauty counters. Also need to give my parents a call and see how my Dad is, he put off seeing the doc about a chest infection way too long and ended up in hospital with nebulizers and cup fulls of steroids. He reckons the steroids made him feel like superman but now he's being weaned off he feels like he's been thrown down 10 flights of stairs!
I need to wash a duvet (have two) but don't want to pay at the dry cleaners, any tips?? It has a big coffee stain on one corner and is a bit whiffy
Thank you for all the good wishes and support while my OH was ill. Luckily it wasn't for long and OH is now completely healed and in the clear, and embracing his scar. After meeting lots of older men with the same cancer at the hospital he feels so lucky it was caughty early and is raring to go with some job interviews in the city this week!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0
