    Two simple things:

1 Contact BBC Watchdog and BBC Radio 4's daily consumer programme, You and Yours at:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/you-and-yours/contact-us/

2 Let the company you bought the goods from know of the problems with Yodel. Tell them if they can't guarantee that future orders will be sent by a different carrier you won't use them again. That worked for me with one company, which has now altered my account profile to ensure that Yodel aren't used again.

Frequently, the company will also offer you a goodwill payment to compensate for the bad service Yodel have provided, so it's well worth complaining. It also has the added benefit that if Yodel haven't delivered the level of 'service' that they contracted to deliver (which they frequently don't) it will affect the money paid to Yodel under the contract. It also makes it less likely that Yodel will get a repeat contract. Companies like cheap delivery contracts - but they certainly don't want contracts with companies like Yodel that end up losing them customers.

Complain, complain, complain - it's the only way to force Yodel to get their act together.

I did number 2. I emailed the CEO of the company I bought from, and copied the CEO of yodel. The subject said they needed to sack yodel, then in the body of it I cancelled my order.

The exec complaints office of the company I bought from called me back early the next day (Saturday). The latter (yodel) couldn't be bothered to do anything.

If I'd read this thread first, I'd have copied the yodel email to the address on the first page.

I presume there's no way we could word this to get publicity some other way, eg a cheeky government petition, or a complaint to trading standards etc? Difficult as we have no contract with yodel, but they ARE ripping off their customers by charging for 1/2/3 day delivery and not even trying for a week.

Similar experience with yodel to others. Paid for next day delivery from Sports Direct. 6 days later, no delivery, lies on the tracking system that they attempted delivery and left a card but someone was in all that day and no card was left. Still no delivery in sight. Transferred around 4 different customer service people this morning. They say it's out for delivery tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see it.
  • Hi, I live in Kettering in Northamptonshire and we have a fantastic carrier service. The company is called LOCARN.
So you don't have to wait in all day, take time off work, or travel to pick up your parcel, what these guys provide is great.
If you know you're not going to be at home and you buy something online, you send your parcel to them.
Locarn then send you a text and an email telling you that they have the parcel and then you log into their site and pick out a delivery slot that is suitable for you! The best is, if you book your slot before 4p.m. they can deliver that evening for you. They delivery mon to fri 6pm 'til midnight and saturday and sunday from 10am 'til 10pm
    Their website is locarn.co.uk
you can register if they are not in your area, this is info they will use to warrant opening in your area. Power to the people!!

idiots cant even do quality spam
  • In October I ordered an item from Amazon for a friends birthday and it was given to Yodel to deliver to my south London address. What I was not anticipating was the terrible service which they offer which included;
    • Waiting in all day at my flat for 5 seperate days for prearranged deliveries which never happened
    • The drivers not turning up yet lying and saying I wasn't in to receive item
    • Being told the only way I would get the item would be to go to their depot to collect
    • Going all the way to depot again on a prearranged basis to be told the item was back on the van (the depot staff thought it was very funny that I had wasted my time going down there and actually laughed at me)
    • Numerous calls to their Liverpool call centre who do nothing but offer empty apologies and put the phone down on you and never escalate any complaints
    • Being told the drivers do not have mobile phones so cannot be contacted when out on a job
    • Being told by the actual depot that the drivers could not deliver to my address because I lived in South London and their Sat Nav didnt work there.
I have recently ordered an item from Office shoes via ebay and the same thing has happened again as they have given the item to Yodel to deliver. the item was supposed to arrive on 21/11/11 but again I waited in all day and nothing turned up. I called the call centre in Liverpool who this time told my that their system was showing that I had refused the delivery from the driver!!!! It is absolutely incredible!!!!

I haven't gone the energy to fight them again to get my item delievered so have just requested a refund. All future online purchases I will have to specify that I do not want Yodel to deliever the item. It actually puts you off buying online - its more hassle than its worth
  • We've been waiting 2 days now for Yodel to collect parcels, they haven't turned up. Pretty hopeless really. Meanwhile our customers have no idea when they will receive their parcels!

crossbat, as you are a sender and actually have a contract with yodel, can't you report them to trading standards? None of us recipients have a legal contract!

I doubt they're going to stay customers for very long!

K, I've reported it to tradng standards / consumer direct, but as we all know my contract is really with the retailer and I don't have a problem with their behaviour - they refunded me fairly promptly after I cancelled after a week of non-delivery. TS will note the comments about yodel, but what would really help is if any shippers who are being ripped off by yodel could raise a complaint with trading standards - as they have a contract and yodel will be in breach of that contract.

So come one all you people using yodel to ship things ... don't be shy about reporting them to trading standards. We can make a difference.
