anyone know of any in Oldham, I go past a big Wing Yip(?) everyday on the bus as I travel through manchester, but at the end of the working day its the last place I want to go. And during a weekend it is quite a trek! so this would help greatly! The sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0

Neilboy- How do you rate the Asian shops in Cambridge,I've tried some of them in Mill Rd but would appreciate your local input as to the best/best value,i've also heard good reports on the shop at the top of Histon Rd.
Thanks
To be honest thats pretty much the only options you have...Compared to London Leics etc you cant really compete with them ....Cambridge has to be expensive because living costs and gettig the stuff here tends to cost more...and the fact there is little competition.
If I need India veg in a hurry (and my mum doesnt have any in her freezer) I go to Al-amins on Mill Road or the Indian Mini Market on Cherry Hinton High Street (next to the Post Office - its fairly new)...he gets fresh stuff in on Mondays and Thursdays.
I deliver fruit and veg but i mainly cater for the Local market.i.e no Indian stuff (apart from Mangoes in Summer!)0 -
It's nice to see this thread again after so long....0

Does anyone know about any website to make an on-line order for Thai stuff? We love Thai food. We normally visit Thailand once a year.
Thanks in advance.0 -
There are some great Chinese and Asian supermarkets in Leeds, some of the city centre ones can be pricy, but head out on chapel town road, and there are some great bargains to be had.0

Got one in Derby on Normanton road where I buy a large bag of fennel seeds for £2.80 and make fennel tea which is far cheaper than buying fennel tea bags0 -
Hi, I'm a newbie, but I just saw your great local shops thread and I couldn't resist.
I live in North London, so my locals are all on Green Lanes. These are mainly Turkish and since I discovered them, I no longer shop in supermarkets.
The fruit and veg are fresher, cheaper and generally better than in supermarkets and the variety is much wider, with more exotics available at reasonable prices (eg: 3 mangos + £1).
It's made me realise how much supermarkets distort our perception of the price of goods. For example, the last time I bought green/red peppers in a supermarket, they were around 80p each! In Fairline I could get a whole bag full for that price.
The above mentioned Fairline and Yasar Halim are my favourites. Yasar regularly gets voted one of the best shops in London in Time Out (one of their contributers must live nearby).
Anyway, support your local shops!

Mattas are amazing - I don't use supermarkets at all (and haven't done for years) and travel to liverpool to goto mattas for 70% of my food. Massive range of foods from all over the world, loads of vegan options and all the staff are really helpful--giving advice on how to cook things, recipe suggestions and they'll also order in anything you want if they can.
Coupled with the chinese supermarket around the corner and windmill on springfield road you never need to goto a supermarket again (and you'll get higher quality food at far less cost).ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0
