No- there is not a minimum pricing starting from October. I can't see it likely to go ahead in the near future either tbh.weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

They are still determined to bring in minimum pricing & now have a majority in order to force it through.globetraveller wrote: »No- there is not a minimum pricing starting from October. I can't see it likely to go ahead in the near future either tbh.
The way I see it the only people it will affect will be those on a limited income who like the occasional drink.
It would suit them better to address the problem of why people drink to excess but our great white chief seems to be working to his own agenda on most things.
Feel better now that I have got that off my chest

Well if Scotland didn't have such terrible drink problems then they wouldn't have to be doing this unfortunately as with many other things the minority ruin it for the majority.
Umm I have travelled extensively and yes us scots enjoy a wee drink now and then, I wouldnt say that we were any worse than England, Wales or Ireland! You just have to watch some of the police documentaries that are on tv to see drunks are all over the place. Personally I'm not much of a drinker and if they did stop offers on alcohol then it wouldnt really bother me!
That said I did get chatted up by a drunk guy in Morrisons at 10am yesterday, buying 12 cans of larger and a bottle of vodka. NICE!!!Trying to fix my finances whilst living with 3 kids and 2 cats! 👩🏻👧🏻👦🏻👶🏼🐱🐱

I think the think 25 policy is pointless and is too confusing for the majority of tesco staff to understand.
The law says you have to be 18 to buy alcohol, so you should only have to provide ID if there is any doubt you are not 18 or over. Simple enough.
The problem lies with Tesco not explaining that think 25 is only a policy of tesco, it is not the law, however powerful they may think tesco is, they don't make the laws up, yet.
From my own experience, I drove to tesco with my girlfriend, bought a weeks worth of shopping, went to pay and was refused the alcohol because I didn't have ID. The checkout person said, yes you are clearly over 18, but because you don't look over 25 you need ID to buy alcohol.
No I dont, I said, the law states you have to be over 18 to buy alcohol, if that is not in question, what is the problem?
Checkout person says, it is the law now, we cannot serve alcohol to people who look under 25 without ID.
I then refused to buy anything, and promptly went home got my ID and went back to complain to the manager of the store.
The manager was also under the impression that think 25 was the law, rather than just a stupid policy used by Tesco. I then had to explain the actual law to him again.
BTW, I am actually 29.
I have also been told by many friends, family on colleagues of their experiences.
People being refused alcohol because they have children with them, who are clearly under 25, just in case you are buying a bottle of vodka for your 10 year old child for example.

That's my friend back from his manager's meeting about the new legislation, for a big supermarket, the law comes into force on 01 Nov, not 01 Oct, as was originally released. No longer posting on freebies or comps0

There is no law stating a minimum price per unit coming in, they tried that, they are changing legisaltion to be able eventually dictate pricing sturcture, it is an attempt to tie down pricing going via the back door, as they know they will fail again if they try. Shift practice IMHO0

Supermarket staff have already been instructed about the price per unit policy and that they will no longer have BOGOF type promotions - if a can of beer sells at £1 a case of 20 will be £20 starting in Nov0 -
Good, maybe it will make a difference to the amount of drunks that roll into my work every weekend, puking, fighting and urinating amongst other things!!, whilst drunk on cheap booze. Im a nurse, and I must say that everybody hates when they are rostered on these shifts because you can guarantee that at least one of the staff is going to end up getting abused.
Yes it is a shame on the people that are responsible but it is always the way, the minority ruin it for everyone else.
There is a huge booze problem in the UK, and it needs to be dealt with, go down any high street on a weekend night and you will see the same thing, no matter where you are in the UK.0 -
I don't think this will change anything people still smoke even though the cost repeatedly goes up and up. Therefore hardened alcoholics will simply pay more to fund their dependance. Weekend drinkers are mostly paying full price in bars anyway and the only people that will be hit are those that stay at home and enjoy the odd bottle of wine and they aren't the problem anyway.0
