At midnight on the 1 Nov, and in Scotland only, challenge 25 will be compulsory/mandatory for all work places that sell or serve alcohol.
Challenge 25 will now cover every pub, club, shops, off-sales in scotland, even bowling clubs.
Where a shop has challenge 21, they now must replace that with challenge 25
http://www.john-gaunt.co.uk/news/217/scotland-reminder-challenge-25-goes-live-on-1-october
And it dosnt stop there, and laws all to do with alcohol, like at the moment in Tesco, you can get 3 bottles of wine @ £10, the new law means if a bottle costs £6, the 3 bottles cost £18, NO BOGOF'S, NO DEALS OF ANYSORT.
http://www.john-gaunt.co.uk/news/171/scotland-upcoming-changes-to-the-licensing-system
In a nutshell if you live in Scotland, & you are not close to the English border, Grabbit on your Christmas alcohol before the end of September, because if you don't, you will be out of pocket, under 25's beware as well.
We can't blame Maggie for this one!

Yes, it will mean our Scottish brethren will only be able to drink 6 days a week instead of 7. I can already hear millions of livers breathing a sigh of relief!0

Well I would not worry about it as the scottish executive or as it likes to call it self a government:mad: does tend to bring out totally stupid unenforcable laws.:o
OH hail to the GOD the MIGHTY SALMOND!!!:A
But our REAL GOD Mr T will douptless prevail and bring refreshment to the people!!:D
And if not, look out for very large trucks crossing over the border from the civilised world to bring supplies to the car boots of this world!!
Or we can as OP says just crossover the Barbed wire fencing, Walls and Mine fields etc (please remember your gaelic passport) to civilisation!!!The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
Looks like the Tesco in Berwick is going to make a fortune! You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0

Yes, and our footy fans never ever get fire-hosed at away games? Why is that?

Scotland is not so bad, we get free prescriptions !
The new rule is not so bad, doesn't mean you cannot buy drink under 25 . Also the offers are to try and prevent over drinking, I guess those that want to still will but having seen a very close friend of mine die a slow and horrible death from alcohol, I wouldn't wish it on anyone, it was the most horrible thing I have ever seen.January
LBM May 2008  Debt Free January 2012 :T0 -
Well if Scotland didn't have such terrible drink problems then they wouldn't have to be doing this unfortunately as with many other things the minority ruin it for the majority.
Hardly a grabbit either
Bit alarmist about the whole drink 25 thing it's not to stop people over 18 getting drink but just recognising it's nearly always impossible to tell the difference between a 16 and 18 year old so to err on the safe side they say if you look under 25 then ID is reqd largely same as it has been for quite some time in England now0 -
I dunno when John Gaunt wrote that article but the minimum alcohol pricing bill was booted into touch in 2009. That's not to say that the Scottish government aren't still trying to get it in though, latest news: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/7d7715e4-c50a-11e0-ba51-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1XLDYX3pr0

Eh, just butting in, but I rarely drink, maybe 1-2 every 3 months or something, but the buy 2 for £25 deals are amazing, so I buy a bottle of Malibu and get SO something, so I kinda hate that they aren't doing offers anymore
It sucks!! 0
