i've been bitten four times in my life by spiders, twice witnessed by others so nope, not making it up! :D

I used to not mind small spiders until they started biting me. I'm glad someone else suffers this, people often don't believe me when I say I've been bitten several times!

I hate the huge ones, they should be slower but I find they're just as fast. 2007 was a terrible year for them, we had some massive ones. and they all seemed to lurk on the doors and try an drop on me as I went through *shudder*.

My worst story was doing an exercise dvd with a friend in our front room and warning her to watch out for a particularly large one that had run under the sofa earlier. Part way through, after some squat drags my sock felt a bit wet, reached down...yep rolled up spider _pale_. I screamed and threw my sock at OH.
  • racyred - love your spider ladder idea, gonna have to get the bits and make one!

I have a crippling fear of them. We had a massive one in the house last autumn, it was so big that my other half was even terrified. I ran out the room screaming and promptly threw up :(

That was a bad day in my household

The dog eats them all here...

lol i set my cat on them she loves them yuck!
  • We get huge spiders here too and im terrified!! DH is chief spider catcher and if he's not here I squish them (while screaming) with whatever comes handy, normally my slipper that I then cant wear because it has a squished spider on it?!!

This has to be my worst spider encounter and I will never forget it, It still makes me feel sick just thinking about it!!

One morning whilst lying in bed after the alarm had gone, everyone was still asleep so all was quiet until I heard this thud on the pillow, I thought wth so I turned my head to look and right at my face was a HUGE spider!!!!! I screamed and it ran towards my hair!! DD who's 3 had sneaked into our bed during the night was still asleep and when I sat up it ran towards her so I grabbed her with the ankles and dragged her to the bottom of the bed while still screaming, she woke up and asked was i was screaming for and when I told her she was screaming too lol DH slept through the whole fiasco  thankfully he did eventually wake up and get it for us :T

Last year my cat bought one in that was the biggest I have ever seen in my life other then at a zoo!

It was so big it kept falling down the wall and it wouldn't have fitted in a pint glass to catch it.

Since then everything else looks small :/ and i hate spiders but after seeing and having to deal with that massive one I seem to have lost alot of my fear because NOTHING could ever compare to that.

I've been reading this thread with interest as we've had loads of the big spiders in, even though I bought one of the plug in repellants last year. This morning about 3 15am I came to with a strange sensation on my arm, my eyes adjusting to the dark saw a large spider climbing up towards my shoulder. I flicked it so hard it flew through the air, but when I put the light on I couldn't see where it had gone. Didn't get much sleep after that and even checked my slippers and dressing gown before I put them on this morning ! Hoping I get some sleep tonight, must try to keep my mouth closed eek !

    Regards

Not sure if this is actually true, but my nan swears by it. She collects conkers and puts them all over her windowsills/near cracks in skirting boards/wherever and she says spiders are repelled by them!!

I've never been frightened anough of them to bother scattering conkers about the place to see if it works, but it might help someone else on here! She's convinced it works!

ETA: I read backwards through the thread and have just noticed at least 2 other people have mentioned conkers! My nan's not lost the plot after all!!
