Then you would not want to know that I caught my 8 yo and her friend trying to build slug pyramids?shell_girl wrote: »...
Now slugs... totally different matter. I go cold and clammy just typing the word
They were in competition; the first to build a four slug tower, without any components of the tower wandering off of its own accord, was the winner.
Yes, I did put a stop to that game!0 -
I got one of those spider repeller thingies that plug in.
I took it out last week cos the crackling was annoying me and within a few days we had at least 5 BIG spiders. Thankfully OH was around to catch them all cos if I was on my own there would be a problem
Anyway, OH fiddled with the frequency and plugged the thing in again a few days ago...no spiders since then....yet! *looks round the room*:cool:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I have a cat that is spider catcher extraordinaire. Nothing but a random leg left by the time she's finished. And occasionally I have brought in my eldest chicken for spider catching duty if it's big and the cat isn't around.
Just in case anyone hasn't seen it, Phil Jupitas did a great routine about his fear of spiders. Had me creased up. There's three parts to it and the link below is the first...

I've also heard that putting conkers in the corners of the rooms helps, although never tried it myself.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
That's it, I'm going conkering this weekend!

I hate spiders, but my DH hates them more than I do so we fight over whose turn it is to get rid of them, if it's a really big one we tackle it together trying not to scream like little girls! My last house was 200 years old with fields all round, that place was a haven for spiders, mice, woodlice etc so I was very happy to move to a brand new flat in the middle of a town, expecting to be bug free, but no such luck! I just hate it when I pick something up and one scuttles out from underneath...scares the heck out of me! :eek:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Ug I hate them, we tend to get mahooosive ones in the bath, almost daily at the moment. I have goosebumps at the thought! I have conkers in my car doors and have had no spiders in the car this year thankfully - almost crashed last year when a rather large specimen decided to dangle infront of me as I was driving! So I will be collecting copious amounts of conkers and having some arty thing designed by DD to hang by every door and window. The dog is a great spider chaser but tends to squish rather than kill leaving me to hoover the remains, ewwww. I do blame myself though, half of my garden is left wild for the bugs to keep my veggies happy but you cant have it both ways!Life happens, live it well.0

i've been bitten four times in my life by spiders, twice witnessed by others so nope, not making it up!

I hate them. I know British spiders aren't poisonous (in the sense other countries more dangerous ones are) but the bites still hurt and one turned septic, resulting in me having to have a course of antibiotics. Three of these were the ordinary house spiders, the brown ones (wolf?) that hunt and don't build a web. One was a small orange bodied spider in Belgium, I still have the mark on my arm from that one! It was in a garden.
This means I'm paranoid about the wee bug*ers. If one is in my vicinity it gets squashed, no second thoughts. No green and creature-friendly glass catching and putting outside. They get killed. If they left me alone, i wouldn't mind but having been bitten four times I'm convinced there is a spider queen somewhere hissing in a web going "kill that human, she is our nemesis and must be destroyed" or words to that effect.
I did read some disturbing articles which say because of climate change colonies of 'imported' black widow spiders are thriving in England (alongside scorpions) which makes me wonder what other kinds might be thriving without us knowing.
Up here, spiders always come in before heavy rain, so I always know when bad weather is coming. They find no shelter here. I kill them regardless.

House spiders are great for munching their way through generations of carpet beetles (which everyone with a carpet has).
Garden spiders spin wonderful webs which on misty autumn mornings sparkle with dew like costly diamonds.
What's not to like ?.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Garden spiders - fine
Big wolf house spiders that like to run across the living room when we're watching tv - dieeee!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
OH killed one in my bedroom the other night (I made him, refused to put the baby to bed in the same room as it) and he squashed it and there's a leg left behind and I swear it's 2 inches long, just a leg!
I really hate them... but I put conkers all round last year under all the wardrobes and behind all the furniture, OH thinks I've lost it and doesn't understand my fear, but I've only had about three in the house this year, much less than usual.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession
