I'm another one who's terrified of spiders urgh.Fortunately,I haven't seen any of the really huge ones so far,but I'm keeping a wary eye out.You usually see a movement out of the corner of your eye in the evening when you are sitting watching tv * shudder * I never kill them though,I go for the glass and card routine.
The conker thing does seem to work.I was very skeptical at first, but I have been spreading conkers around the house for the last 2 years and I have hardly seen any spiders at all.0 -
Ive seen a couple of huge ones in the last few days. Coincided with the start of the bad weather.
Doesnt help that we're in the middle of extensive building work so they're all being disturbed anyway.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
I am the chief spider catcher in the house. As a woman, it's not fair. Should be one of my strapping sons or my fella catching them.
They have appeared last week mostly when I have been on my own.
One came up the wall near my bed. I screamed and ran away
Never found that one when I went back.
I caught six massive spiders. One was bungee jumping on the landing and my kids ran away that time. It was H U G E !!!!!!
Not seen any big ones at all this week.
I have half a dozen little ones, that are in my bedroom near the curtains. They can stay, I like ickle ones!
It's their big daddys I don't want creeping around!0 -
It's house spider mating season that's why they're scuttling all over. In the countryside we used to call them harvest spiders l'm not sure if people thought they lived in the fields and came in the houses when the crop was harvested?
Anyways l hate the little blighters and so does my son, hubbys not keen but he is the spider killer.
I'm terrified one's going to run across me while l'm asleep, l've known a couple of people bitten by them and one was trying to shake it off his hand and it wouldn't let go, argh!:eek::eek:

Yep huuuge spiders in our house too. Last year my other half collected some conkers and we put them in the corners of the rooms and it definitely helped. Will try and get some more.
We have to get rid of them quick as DD is very phobic about them. One ran across her lap when she was a toddler eating her breakfast and she promptly threw up she was so scared. She's been frightened of them ever since.0 -
I really love spider season.
There are so many beautifully patterned ones about and I can finally take the flypapers down
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Garden spiders - fine
Big wolf house spiders that like to run across the living room when we're watching tv - dieeee!
Yup - outside is fine but trespassers will be [STRIKE]prosec[/STRIKE]...exectuted....
Going to try and get some conkers now though - I would rather repel them than see them squished*
*Some lucky ones do get the glass/paper treatment but it depends where they are if we can use the glass...or if they even fit in it, we have been known to have to use a vase!!!:eek:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I deal with spiders if I have to, but the wifey gets paralyzed with fear if they're around, so we bought one of those ultrasonic deterrent things. Haven't really stopped to evalutate it's success, really - but I've only had to deal with a couple of spiders in the last few months - and last year there was a period when I had to do a couple a day - if that period is now-ish, maybe the thing does work...0

Rocksteady *loves* spiders, he thinks they're great fun to play with, just wish he wouldn't lose interest when they stopped moving, sometimes he gets too bored and doesn't eat the b*gger.

I tried to set the dog on one the other day as it ran across the living room carpet. The dog followed it and nosed it a few times. It got away.
Might take a few attempts before she is trained up enough to kill them for me.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0
