I'm thinking of selling my PS3. There's just not much on it right now to justify me keeping it. Only had it for a week and have been playing Resistance, which is supposedly the best game on the console at the moment. Not very impressed by the game so far.

Thats the reason I haven't bought an import myself. Nothing much worth playing yet. Resistance and Motostorm are about it. But come the Euro launch there will be alot more titles.

As I say it all comes down to the games. If PS3 has the same wealth of variety and quality that the PS2 had then it will win in the long run I think.

Personally i don't care for sony much, lik-sang to name but one of many things consumers used to be able to enjoy but now cannot in Sony's pursuit of profit wealth maximisation.

Microsoft are the worst offender in the world by a million miles for swallowing up or putting out of business their rivals or companies it does not like. Profit Wealth Maximisation is practically thier moto.

The Import versions are much cheaper on the other hand, that's reason why I bought it.

    PS3 Pros
Integrated Wifi (£50 to add for 360)
Blu Ray Drive (£130 to add for 360 HD-DVD drive)
Integrated rechargeable battery for controller (£13 for 360)

    PS3 Cons
No great games, yet (this should change in March)
No Component/HDMI cable included (£10-20 to purchase)
  • PS3 cons: Massive price tag, terrible online service, appauling lack of games, fast disappearing list of console exclusive titles, no rumble in the joypads, poorly integrated motion sensing in the joypad.

    P$3 Pros: Looks nice :rotfl:
    MSE's Xbox 360 guru.

    Ask me anything! ;)

The estimate RRP of the 60Gb PS3 - is £425

The RRP price of an Xbox 360 Premium console and HD-DVD drive is £280 + £130 = £410.

Before anybody says you can get it cheaper. I am simply comparing like for like.

    So it is PS3 @ £425 and Xbox 360 @ £410

For the right here, right now, those prices are accurate.

I would guess a Premium 360 will drop to RRP £229.99 if console price drop history is anything to go by, when the PS3 is launched in Europe. I doubt the HD add on will drop much if anything. The production costs on the 360 have fallen and should continue. Microsoft will pass on the saving to the consumer if this will help win the console war. All guesswork, mind.

Sony really should have made Blu-Ray a future add on to save on costs. They need to have very deep pockets as they too will be making a loss on each console sold. Microsoft have a much bigger war chest and can make bigger losses, should they really desire to beat Sony. Just look at the millions they will make with Vista.

Sony also lost the big exclusives on GTA series, while the 360 is the only place you can play Pro Evo 6 on the Next-Gen consoles.

I was all set to get a 360 prior to Christmas but I kept being put off by the wireless network adapter factor at an additional £50. That really is an extortionate sum for what I consider to be a fairly trivial item.

Lets hope prices fall in March.

You don't need to use the official adaptor, other adaptors that cost less will do the job. I'm sure someone in the tech section will put you right. I share my connection for live through my pc and it does the job without the need for expensive gizmos.

Personally I find there is too much hype around the so called "next gen" of consoles. I own a 360 but I'm yet to be blown away like I was with the original xbox, which was clearly superior to the ageing PS2 at the time.

I mean all this stuff about HD DVD (by the way MS have said it won't be used for games) and Blu Ray. What games out there actually fill a dvd disc at the moment? There aren't any that I'm aware of. I'll only be interseted in either of the formats when it's a must have and the prices are affordable.

And as for console exclusives, they are becoming a thing of the past. Sony used to have the edge with Pro Evolution Soccer and GTA but that is no more and both now grace both formats with the next GTA being available on PS3 and 360.

If I was going to pick up another console I'd get a Wii or a DS, Nintendo along with Sega have always made some great games over the years.

Pro Evo 6 on the x360 is rubbish though. Hasnt got half the options of the psp version! Also its terrible online, goes slow all the time, games mess up constantly. Very dissappointed with this game!

PS3 is far too expensive, if xbox reduce its prices then its a no brainer which to buy!

The reason why everyone here is complaining is because of the outrageous European price. It's only £335 in the states. So it's cheaper than having a Xbox 360 + HD-DVD Drive + Charge kit there.

When it comes down to it only one thing sells a console and thats its games and I think thats where PS3 will win in the end.

They have an established fanbase of the various Sony only titles and if PS2 is anything to go by they will have a much more varied catalogue of games.

I have no affiliation to either console but I'll go with a PS3 over an Xbox because I looked at the games on the Xbox and they all seem to be 3rd/1st person shooters, drive em ups or sports games (usually American sports). The simple reason for this is that Xbox's main market is the US and most games are made to target that market.

The PS3 on the other hand is huge in Japan, US and Europe which means the games are much more varied.

I think the Xbox will match anything graphically on the PS3, certainly in the early days. But even the 360's flagship title Gears of War while it looks stunning is really really dull! Run, hide, shoot, run, hide, shoot.

The problem here though is the price-tag if it was priced equal or near to Xbox 360's price tag im sure it would be a huge hit. Unfortunately, It is simply too expensive for somebody who just wants a game console, the PS3 is completely different to what PS1 and PS2 offered. These were purely games consoles priced affordably and (in the PS2 era) coupled with Sony's dominant market share meant most of the best third party games became exclusive to the playstation platform.

This time its different, they have had a horrendous time trying to launch the console and anticipation amongst consumers for it has gone from high to low in an alarmingly short space of time. Game developers are echoing these woes and are cancelling or halting development on games until they see some solid and encouraging sales figures which aren't happening right now. Rightly so because it is not only the most expensive system to buy but also the most expensive to develop for.

There is absolutely no way that PS3 will ship anywhere near as many as the 110 million+ PS2 consoles that are on the market in its lifetime. Which basically means software support will dwindle, its too early to say how much or how little support it will get but its not looking brilliant.

I don't understand why anybody is holding out for a PS3 when a console with pretty much equal capabilities, a huge software catalogue and support is already on the market.

You are probably right to wait and see, but unlike previous consoles from Sony. The PS3 does not have enough driving character to make it the biggest seller right now.
