In Virgin today and they've got blu ray discs in stock.
Serenity - £27.99
Fantastic Four - £27.99
Jeez, that's a lot of cash for average and old movies. Blu-Ray will remain an AV enthusiasts speciality, rather than the domain of teenagers.
I see what Sony are doing with geting their technology into households but it makes the consle too expensive, with few benefits to the average joe.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
Japanese Ps3 60GB version is widely available for £425 in UK (add £20ish further handling charges.)0

The RRP price of an Xbox 360 Premium console and HD-DVD drive is £280 + £130 = £410.
Before anybody says you can get it cheaper. I am simply comparing like for like.
So it is PS3 @ £425 and Xbox 360 @ £410
Well said!! In addition, don't forget the 360 has no wireless (add £60) and only has a 20GB hard drive instead of a 60GB one, meaning that the PS3 works out as much better value (in comparison). It's still bloody expensive though :rotfl:
Shame we aren't in Japan or the US though, we're still being ripped off in Europe!0 -

Casino Royale preorder on Blu-Ray from HMV is £15.99, nobody in their right mind would pay £27.99 for a film you can get on normal DVD for less than a fiver. Don't forget that the HD or Blu-ray DVD players will be able to upscale the picture of a normal DVD to near HD quality anyway providing you have the right set up.
What seems to be happening here is there is the Sony followers in one corner and the Microsoft followers in the other. With no particular allegiance to either company (I have a PS2, an original Xbox, a Gamecube and a PSP) here is my two penny worth:
PS3 is likely to be the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market when it finally gets released (probably somewhere around Easter or summer 2007 with a possible slight drop in price before Christmas). This alone is reason to buy it if you want a Blu-Ray player to play HD films and are not bothered about games. However next gen DVD players are likely to plumet in price as the year goes on and will certainly fairly cheap within the next 18 months.
There will be more games for the PS3 expecially coupled with the current wealth of games for the PS2 so it will no doubt sell plenty of units, however the 360 has a long time to develop games in Sony's absence and will release a load around PS3 release date as well as a drop in price to further damage sony.
Let us not forget the minnow of the pack, Nintendos Wii. Having played all three consoles I would say the most addictive of all is this one and will not do Sony any favours, especially as this is likely to drop in price slightly as they become more available.
All in all Sony's constant delays and high RRP will mean a massive loss over the initial period of release but I suspect it won't be that bad over time, especially when the price starts coming down. (They will make lots of money selling the games and a possible new version of PSP)! however 360 will probably win the war as the price comes down and a lot of people frustrated with the Sony delays will have crossed over to MS or Nintendo.
For myself I will stick with playing playstation games on my PS2, Xbox games on my Xbox and I will continue to travel with the priceless PSP.
Oh, and I will get a Wii as soon as I can find one!!You're my wife now!!0
