Parking Issues Obstructing Driveway.

Hi, I have come home to find that the woman directly across the road (who actually lives on a different street to me, she is on a junction) has decided since i moved into the house (June 2011) that she will park opposite my house and obstructing my way in & out of driveway. I caught her going into her house, so i approached her calmly asking if she would be able to move her car as she is blocking my way. She told me she has had no problem with parking since we moved in (there used to be an old man who never left the house living there) I replied that i can't get into my drive & she claims not her problem, i then reply saying you have a garage and a drive yourself (on the other street) why not park there....her reply is phone the police - don't waste my time & walked off. We have both approached her in the same manner once when we moved in & today as i have had enough! If we needed to get our other car out of drive now, then we wouldn't be able to! She is also constantly parking within less than 32feet of a junction! Do i have a leg to stand on if i call her bluff??? Please help asap!! Thanks

  • When you say parking opposite, do you mean at the top of your drive or on the other side of the road, making it difficult to get in/out?
If she is causing an obstruction then do as she suggested and call the police(your local station as its not really a 999 call). They will come and move it for her is she won't do it.

You've tried the correct/polite approach, :T:T some spineless people would have just tried to report her annonimously.

However if it's just that parking opposite your drive is making life awkward/difficult then there's probably little that can be done legally. If she is parking within the junction area particularly at night then the police may be interested.

I mentioned legally earlier, not that I'm suggesting you nudge her car, but if the suggestion is made to her that sooner or later if she continues to park there it's inevitable that someone will damage her car. ;)

Don't you just love neighbours like that 19.gif
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Park in front of your house, and don't go onto your drive. She won't be able to park opposite you. Or park in front of her drive.
Do it for a while, she might get the hint.

It's hard to really know what's going on here, I cannot picture in my head why this would cause a problem getting into your drive.

Her rude response however, I think i'd be inclined to take the bird seed approach.

    We have a similar issue.

The entry to the driveway is quite narrow so you need to have the car able to go almost straight back into it. With a car on the otherside of the road you can't get the front end round enough to actually back in in one go resulting in a back forward motion that looks like a learner going for a 3 point turn.

Coming out likewise, means some careful backing up and inching trhe car past so certianly causing an obstruction but not sure there is anything you can do about it.

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Police ticketed 5 cars near me for parking near junction.

Sounds like you need a old barge of a car, easier to fight a neighbour when your car isn't worth damaging ;)

    Also an interesting fact.....

The front bumper on a modern car has a great amount of flexibility, it will flex without damage in low speed shunts and will return to it's original shape unharmed. However the side door panels on a modern car will not.....

  • It is hard to picture the scene! Is the vehicle completely blocking your access or is it parked opposite making access difficult?? If its the latter its so frustrating but there is nothing you can do. Police will only attend if access is completely blocked and even then they can't force her to move car but will ticket her!

Which might provoke a brake fluid response. In both cases, unless caught in the act, very difficult to prove who did it.
