If you want something a little bit different but still traditional, you could look to the Bible: I'm not talking Nebuchednezzar territory or anythingbut Simeon, Levi, Elijah, Reuben, Jacob and Asher are all great Biblical names that still come off as being a bit unusual today
Not unusual in the slightest if you, like me, live in London.
Malachi, Kenan, Zachariah, & Enoch are also very common.
Nothing wrong with them, though.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I voted Archie, although I like Ethan too. When my son was born we had no idea what to call him, I knew I wanted Esme or Elouise for a girl but we couldn't agree on a boys name, in the end we plumped for Harrison (although apparently his friends at school call him Harry!).0

I had a cat called Archie, he was named because of his peachy colour, a flame point persian. so that doesnt do it for me, therefore I voted Connor, although cant say I like any of the options that much.0

I am due in ten weeks and am calling my little boy Max, I love it, I also have a Jack and I disagree that you should not name your child just because there will be 5 others in class. The name you pick is unique to your child and that makes him/her an individual.
Just saying!! I voted Ethan, just sounds nicer than the others.
Isn't it interesting how folk go about choosing a name for their baby? I agree you shouldn't discount a name you like just because its a popular name, if you like it, why not use it?
My DD has a very unusual name (in the UK anyway). Its not spelt as its pronounced, and our surname is ethnic too (and regularly misheard and mis-spelt). But neither name is difficult to pronounce, and once people hear it, thats it, its who she is. No problems with bullying or anything else due to her name.
After reading this thread, I've said her name with "Doctor" in front of it, pictured it being read out as a newsreader, and imagined it being shouted across the pub - and I think it sounds fine in all of those scenarios.

My married name is a very old cornish name. No one can spell it after hearing it, and no one can pronounce it after reading it. Choosing our kid's names was a blessed struggle. In the end we went with names that suited the child.
Play the names you've shortlisted through certain situations in your head. Which one seems the most fitting for you?
Then go through the stress all again for his middle name.:D0 -
It's so hard isn't it?!
My 3 have pretty unusual names, as we did want them to be the only ones to own their name. We dicnt want them to have the conitations of having a past relatives name, didnt want anything biblical, trendy modern, hippy chav etc! Nor did we want them to feel overly exposed by their name.
Deffinetly wait to see your baby before choosing for certain, as you do get an inclination as to whether it suits, once you can see it and have a glimpse at it's character!
I dont much like any of your choses ( no offence!) just thought up some others, not particular favourites of mine, but just off the top of my head!

also have DS2 who is Ethan named far before it was popular..he is 15...no one I know has either of these names thankfully...
My cousin is 20 next week and he is Ethan...
I do think boys having common names so there are 5 of them in a class means the are more likely to get lumped with stupid/rude/deogatory nickname.. thinking of the boys I was at school with.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I would also, say it and write it down, check what the initials spell, see if it changes when said fast. Imagine it on a person of carols ages, and bear in mind future children's names, eg if you know one day you'd like a girl named "----" chose a name that goes well with that!
Also keep any lists for future reference!
Its not just a name it is your child's name, for life!0
