Whitby or Harrogate?

Considering a trip up to either Whitby or Harrogate this weekend. Just site seeing, spend some time in a cafe, eat some good food and want to have a lazy drive up and back. Is there much to do in either of these places? And where would you rather go? Grateful for any tips x

I wouldn't bother making a special trip to Robin Hood's bay - I went as I was passing that way anyway, and after all the hype was quite disappointed. If I'd made an extra effort to get there I wouldn't have thought it was worth it. (And the beach bit was not scenic and quite pongy.)
