Graveleys is a chain. They have one in harrogate. It's the best chip shop in harrogate- not been to the one in whitby But I think it's newish.
Trenchers (?) is always busy near the station. It's ok.
What about stopping in helmsley /Pickering area on the way home. Great pubs with food up there.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

You only quoted half my sentence! I started by saying that whitby food other wasn't good other than the Magpie!
You could work for a tabloid!
I meant Whitby food is overpriced not the magpie and the chip shops all use Veg oil.
Magpie is ok and not as expensive as some others. If you queued for 2 hours you might think why did you bother but time it right and you don't queue. Is it amazing- no. Is it good-yes. Is it hyped - definately!June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

When we go to Whitby it is the seagulls that scare me far more than any Goth ever will . Beware if you do eat your fish and chips outside , they are scary and will attempt to pinch your food !! ( Not the Goths )0

I'd pick Whitby, especially if it's a nice day. The drive is fantastic there through the Moors and when you're ther you can often park for free on the top by the Whale bones and crescent area. Then you've got the old town, church and abbey to wander around. The harbour for boats. I personally wouldn't bother with the Magpie F&C cafe, think it's well overrated there are so many other nice places to eat.0

For a day out Whitby is a really good option. Nice small town (bit hilly in parts!), harbour to walk around, some nice non-chain shops, great fish and chips (not just Magpie!) Abbey offers spectracular views once you've climbned to the top, nice cafes (try lunch at Bothams for good food, decent prices and a bit of a retro experience), interesting museum, boat trips etc. beach/cliff walks. Hard to beat I'd say.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

Hi All, thanks for all the responses. Whitby it is then. Would it be worth while making a trip to Robin Hood's bay whilst we are there? Or do you think Robin Hoods bay is worth a whole days stay?0
-
Robin Hood's Bay is quite a small village really. It's got a few shops, tea rooms and pubs. If the weather's good and you want to stay by the sea no problem, but you mihgt be hard pushed to make it last more than a morning or afternoon. You can actually walk the coast path from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay if you are feeling energetic ( bit further inland than it used to be in places on account of erosion!) which might make it a full day. If you drive it's best to park at the top of Robin Hood's bay and walk down. You wouldn't want to get all the way down and realise there's nowhere to park!Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

You're unlikely to want a whole day in Robin Hoods Bay unless you're going to sit on the beach or do some serious cliff walking! Its a tiny place where you park at the top and walk down to the village through all the little houses and a few shops. Very picturesque.
You can get down to the bottom two ways - down the little but very steep road! or down a path that you'll see at the top that goes through the picnic area and down along the edge next to the sea. We tend to go down one way and come up the other which is nice! You should definietly be able to fit both in.0
