Whitby or Harrogate?

Comments

  • Are you wanting to stay?

Whitby is mainly B&Bs. Some country hotels nearby.

    Harrogate has the full range

No, we're just wanting to spend Saturday up there. So drive up early around around 9, take a couple of hours from Doncaster. and head back around 7 or so.
  • I live in 1 and grew up next to the other.

    What about York? In between

Absolutely love York but been so many times, wanted to see some place new, but don't fancy anything too far away :(

yes whitby is mainly B&Bs but compared to most british seaside resorts whitby is fantastic

No offence to Blackpool, but is Whitby anything like Blackpool?

No, much nicer. It has a small bit of a chavvy arcade/fish and chip bit, but it's a proper harbour where Blackpool is a beach, tacky arcades the tower and the pleasure beach.
No offence to Blackpool folk, I don't mind it for a cheap and cheerful day out, but Whitby is much more scenic. And not full of the hen/stag tasteful penis shaped lollies. Etc.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Doncaster is exactly 1 hour drive from Harrogate so handy- You could get train to Leeds and then on and enjoy the many bars!

Not sure about Whitby but just under 2 hours drive.

If the weather good try Whitby and leave Harrogate for Winter or if you just want sea go to Staithes or Robin Hoods Bay (check the tides)

Whitby has lots of hippy gifty shops plus a few smaller national shops (nothing exciting). Very pretty.

We park at the abbey (lots of room and not that pricey for whitby) and walk down (we are english heritage members so go through abbey for free but you can go round it I think)

Whitby is lush, Blackpool is erm ... unique ;)
There are plenty of car parks in Whitby, but they'll be busy if it's a nice day, and the kids have gone back to school.

I was quite surprised at the lack of dracula stuff tbh - then again who reads books nowadays when there's Robert Pattinson being all mean and moody.
