Why would you come to Tesco with no money? :S

Exactly. If they just popped out to post a letter, why does it take two of them and a motorbike trip, especially when they knew they were low on fuel? - most people have a post box within walking distance of their house.

Also, why would they end up at Tesco? And why did they suddenly find the need to check if either of them had a key once there?

    SCAM!

I'm inclined to think genuine. Why pick on you with your mum and sister there, when at Tesco she could have probably found adults on their own who would be less likely to be influenced by other people's input.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

oh, oh - just seen other replies! Looks like I might have to accept I need to toughen up then!

Think your sister was naive also expecting her to get help by going into tescos,I doubt if they would have had a whipround.;)

  • I suspect you were conned. But so what? You gave a fiver willingly and graciously out of the goodness of your heart; you shouldn't feel ashamed of that.

And ignore NCISROCKS' provocative and paranoid nonsense about giving your work address. If this person was genuine they'll merely use it to return your money, and if they weren't, taking this information was just part of making their story more authentic and they'd have ditched the address long ago. What are they going to do with your work address?? Break in and steal the photocopier?

That was my thinking! How can someone's job be at risk just because they decided to do something kind for another human being? Talk about scaremongering. If there was a problem, I'm sure the OP's employer would be more taken with the fact that she has a good heart.

Yes, I think you were naive.

Yes, I think you've been conned.

No, I don't think you'll see your money again.

But I think you are a genuinely nice, decent, kind hearted person and yes, I believe in karma, and think that good things will happen to you as a result of your kindness.

And if I'm wrong about the girl who approached you, then you have helped someone out in a crisis, which may or may not have been of their own making, and as you say, a fiver isn't going to break the bank for you.
  • Yes you were conned, but please just put it down to experience and move on!:D

Text the girl and ask for her address so you can go around and collect the money.

Wonder why she didn't offer you her address in the first place ? :o
  • She could havegone to the petrol station at Tesco and filled out a form for non-payment of fuel. A couple of quid would have got her to her nan's and back and she would have owed Tesco, not you.

    Guess you live and learn.

I didn't know that either, that's really useful for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation, thanks.
