One time I did help someone out was when the stitches had split on a gash in his hand and he needed the bus fare to go to hospital. I could see the state of his hand so he wasn't making it up. Of course I took a chance that he spent the money on a hospital visit rather than self medicating, I should have seen him onto the bus, but I couldn't just leave him like that.0

Conned...a woman leaving the house without her handbag and yet still has her mobile phone...doesn't happen in my experience!
Wrong - I do that all the time.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
I would text her to check she got home ok and arrange something you're comfortable with in terms of picking up the money, if you don't then even if she was genuine she might think you meant it as a gift since you didn't tell her how to give it back. If you text her at least you'll know what's going on so you can move on.0

Sorry I think you've been scammed - the "showing you she still has credit on the phone" was the step too far that really gave it away (though the going out shopping without a wallet is also a non-starter!).
I've actually been on the begging end myself though - I once left my wallet in China and arrived in Charles de Gaul with an onward flight to Manchester but no money for the bus, and no family or friends in Manchester I could contact. It was awful picking my "target" but I went for a woman assuming that she would be more likely to have change in her handbag than the business men in suits. All I had was 2 Euro and asked if I could buy a pound off her - which probably worked in my favour, as I was offering more than the pound was worth - but she kindly gave be £2 and refused my Euro. A good job too, because the bus fare had gone up since I had last used it!0 -

Yes TBH I thought showing she had credit and having a helmet under her arm were touches to make her story more plausible so probably a scam.
Glad you got home ok!0 -
I've been scammed like this on a train. Average looking bloke, smart, usual sob story of not having money to get home and I lent him a fiver. Then I saw him the next day on the same train pulling the same spiel on another traveller. The man without a signature.0

She said her & her partner had left home to very quickly post a letter Why would you go to Tesco to post a letter, you'd go to the nearest post box, and why would two of you need to go if that's the only reason you went out.
The only option they had was to go to Henley (about a 20 min drive) to her nan's to pick up a spare key Wouldn't you go home first and check if a window was open etc?
She then asked it either of us could "lend" her a couple of pound for petrol, If they'd have gone to the petrol station and put petrol in the motorbike they could have filled a form in to say they would return later to pay, I've done this a couple of times.
Sorry, but I think you've been had. I wonder how many other people in that large Tesco car park gave them 'just a fiver', bet they're onto a nice little earner there.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Have you ever thought to text her and ask her to meet you somewhere to give you the money, that way you will know if she is genuine or not.0
