Just wanted to say thanks, I've just finished my lunch and it was really tasty- the chicken was really tender and scrummy! I'm spending the afternoon using up the extra chicken to make a curry, some chicken and mayo sandwich spread and using the stock and vegies to make a soup! Thanks everyone for your advice!:love:11th March 2010- Got engaged to my amazing fiance, planning our wedding for 20120

I know it's a bit late and I'm glad you enjoyed your lunch
I don't usually add vegetables while it's cooking. I just add a teeny bit of liquid and away it goes. It's delicious
I would like to thank foreign correspondant for the tip about browning it in a hot pan first :T I hadn't actually thought of that .

we just had beef brisket for tea that I cooked in the SC yesterday - havent cooked brisket in it before... I ground some black pepper over the meat then seared the outside of the brisket in a hot frying pan, bunged of a couple of sticks of celery, a bit of swede and 2 onions, all roughly chopped, and 2 bay leaves straight into the SC, popped the meat on top, glugged in a mug of beef stock and a dash of christmas left-over port, cooked it for about eight hours and it was lovely!
We have had two meals out of it so far and there is loads left. I think it cost about £3-£4 but was quite a big piece. Its also ideal for serving cold, thinly sliced as a sandhich meat, and much cheaper than buying sliced roast beef in packets or from the deli counter.
I am sure it wuld have ben fine without the liquid, but I do like to make gravy with the juices!0 -

i'm interested in getting a slow cooker how big are yours, is 3.5l big enough for a whole chicken0

Mine's a 6.5l breville (don't think they make my model anymore though) and I can get a really big chicken in mine. I think you might struggle with a whole chicken in a 3.5l, but I'm sure someone on here who has one will be along in a minute to inform you for sure.I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0

Purchased this yesterday http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=379638 It is a 3.5 litre Morphy Richards and I am cooking a whole chicken in it as we speak ( Sainsburys medium chicken but don't know the weight ). Hopefully 8 hours on low.

I've got a "medium" chicken in my slow cooker (browned it off, put *two lemon halves and a spoon of dried parsley in the cavity, half an onion and a wineglass of water in the pot with it and sprinkled it with paprika). Pause for breath.....
I'm just not sure how long it should take to cook. It's been on "High" since 11.36.
*used lemon zest and juice to make a lemon drizzle cake, do I get extra OS brownie points for using the remains inside the chicken? :rotfl::wave:0 -
if doing on high i would say it would be ready in a total of 4 hours so if you put it on at 11:30 then it will be ready at about 3:30pmStill TryingGrocery challenge July 2016
