    Hi,
How do I know when it's done? I put it in at 9.20 this morning on high for one hour then turned it down to low. It's now 3.20 so it's been in 6 hours. Do you think tha's long enough?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Snap - I am doing this for the first time too. I put mine in at 10am, I think I am going to check it at 5pm so yours should be about ready too.

    Good luck!

I cooked a whole chicken in my slow cooker yesterday, tastes delish, a few hints.............

Medium chicken = 4 hrs on high.

Take the meat of the bones when the chicken is still quite warm, makes it much easier.

I put 100ml of water in with my chicken and as soon as I had lifted the chicken out I added diced potatoes, carrotts, a tin of chopped tomatoes, herbs, a bit of curry powder and some fresh ground black pepper and cooked for a furthar couple of hours on high. Just before switching off I added a drained and rinsed can of mixed beans and left the whole lot to cool in the slow cooker. A delicious stew/soup which will take care of all my work lunches next week.

I've cooked chicken in my slow cooker a good few times now, with no water and just an onion in the cavity, always delicious, my OH makes comments every time we eat it, about how lovely it is, he thinks I can cook now!

    Hi guys

I am new to slow cooking but have a 6.5l MR. I have cooked a stew in it fine and a rice pud but now i want to do a whole chicken.

I have heard loads of conflicting info about what temp and for how long.

I am going to make a paste of paprika, olive oil, s&p and garlic as suggested on here. Carrots, onions and potatoes and bitof chicken stock in the bottom.

So can anyone suggest how long please!!!

    Thanks

  • Much will depend on the size of your chicken, but supposing it's no more than 1.3kg it will be wonderfully cooked through if done on high for 5.5hrs.

    Thank you!

I am still a bit worried tho. Some people have said similar times but on low or medium!

Prob is i am at work all day and my b/f is sticking it on.

I am worried about killing him or the chicken!!!

    Good morning everyone:hello:

I'm putting a whole chicken in the slow cooker for the first time. I've put a layer of onions on the bottom, a clove of garlic in and around it and I've massaged it with oil, herbs, salt & pepper. My quest is, do I need to put any water in it?

Anything I've cooked in the past always had fluid in it. I'm going to work soon (DH nightshift) and I don't want to cause a slow cooker commotion for him when he awakes:p

    Thanks in advance of assistance.

Have a great Sunday one and all
