Hi all
Hope you are all having a good day. I am definitely feeling happier and bouncier today because the sun is out here :j
I have a 2.5 kg chicken (with a tiny bit of water) in my slow cooker at the moment. It is my first one and I wondered how long it would usually take? I put it on high for the first hour to get it going and have now turned it down to medium.
I know loads of you cook chickens in the SC, what setting do you normally use?
Thanks0 -
hi,
i am not an expert on this, but i have cooked whole chicken in the sc before and i set it on normal setting, with a little water in the bottom. I think I put it on at 8.30am and it was ready, when I got home from work at 5 ish!!
I am sure others on here know exactly how it's done :j'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'

Mine usually takes between 6 to 8 hours.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0

Hi
I usually put mine in about 9am, on high then turn it down after about an hour.
Then i turn it over about 12pm and usually take it out about 4.30pm.0 -
I used to put mine on before I went to work - about 8.00. I cut a lemon in half, squeeze over then stuff inside, sometimes with a few cloves of garlic &/or some fresh herbs , slosh some olive oil over the top. Don't use any liquid. Then found when I got back - anytime between 5 & 7 it was always fine - falls off the bone anyway, so I don't think cooking longer does it any harm.0

Thanks everyone - that was a really lovely chicken!
I don't really like pulling the meat away from the bones, but since it fell off it took no time at all. I will definitely cook chicken that way again.
I have just put my chicken stock on so that it will be ready in the morning to use for our dinner tomorrow (sausage casserole in the slow cooker). Haven't made successful stock before so fingers crossed0 -
My slow cooker doesn't look big enough to fit a whole chicken in?? Not sure how big it is though cos I was given it but I'd be interested to see if I could put one in mine as this thread has made me want to try. sounds so yummy!0
