Potentially it could have been a reduced laptop. The SEL was most likely taken by another customer, this happens all the time or could have been removed by staff. However saying that, our pricing doesn't always make sense for example in my store I have a Sony Vaio Intel Dual Core 1.6ghz 4GB 320GB HDD laptop that is £549 but I also have a Acer I5 2.4ghz 6GB 750GB HDD for £499

Can I ask, are the reduced items also marked down on the SEL? Or are they full price and people just checking?

Read some suggestion an asterisk * on the SEL has some meaning and items with one might be reduced.

I went to Mr T tonight hunting for some more bargain. We found some stuff, but we had to check a lot. After we paid, the security man caught us and said we are not allowed to get into the store any more, and what else we are not allowed to get into any Mr T store, because they keep a record, and if the camera see us they call the police and we will be arrested for trespass. I asked why, and he said they know I go to Mr T often and checking the prices to get DTD. I had 2-3 DTD all together, one of them was a bigger DTD in that store, but I didn't go for it, I went to find cheap electrical items. My husband said they can't do it, but I don't know. Can they?

I'm afraid they can. A friend of mine was told on the way out one night two years ago " we would rather you didn't shop here anymore" no explanation despite demanding to know why. This was in the days of R&R. They left it a while but when they thought it was safe went back to the shop but were recognised and told to leave, again without explanation. After a gap of a few months with changes to managers and security staff they continued to visist the store as they were unknown to the new staff. If you were to press it under the data protection act and they didn't know your identity they would have to produce the CCTV evidence that they hold on you. This cannot be held forever and will eventually be deleted.

Edit: I don't think a security man can do this. You should ask to see a senior manager and at least ask for an explanation

The cheap items that are being described on here are all discontinued items and as such disc stock isn't worked by Night teams, they are there to work delivery and backstock if you are lucky. Actioning disc stock is the responsibility of day staff

    * in the corner of the SEL means discontinued

I see, so is this one the SEL itself, isit in pen or printed? Just want to know what to look for tomorrow as there is an extra store on my daily journey.
  • In my local store, the peeps behind the desk are very helpful, and some of the new laptops coming in are actually cheaper than some of the old ex displays they sell with 10% off. Apparantly all these bargains are to rid stores of excess 'old' stock, and my local store has very little left, although today I saw 2 customers buy 2 Toshiba netbooks for £99 each, and another small netbook for £49!! I managed to grab a few bargains last week, but there is very little left, and deliveries into stores are NOT the bargain stuff. The staff were telling me few labels were coming off for these reductions, because most are discontinued, and not set up for a label. They don't know what is reduced either, so they are scanning everything in sight too. Good luck to them I say, they must put up with some s**t from the public, I hope they manage to get a few bargains too.

Sounds like harassment to me?! Fair enough there are laws on trespass and you can choose whatever reason you want to keep people off your property - but the root of the issue being their own nationwide policy, and their inability to keep SEL's up to date (probably standing around chatting, and hiding bargains for themselves) I feel this is particularly unfair of them.

If you have a mobile phone with video recording capability I'd go in and try buy more cheap electrical goods and be prepared to video record him and see if he keeps the same line on video.

Like another poster said I am sure the Police would be unlikely to do much. I think worst the Police would do is ask you to leave under the justification of avoiding a breach of peace - but I have my doubts they'd even do that.

I was discussing this with one of the Tesco staff yesterday but they said candidly that because of glitches in the past most Tesco staff are well equiped with electrical goods and don't need any more
