  • A nice lady at CS in my local Extra (24h) told me on Friday that they'll be closing early Sunday, so they must have been planning it for awhile.

Can I just say THANKS VERY MUCH to all the lazy people who can't be bothered to put the things they are pricechecking back and dump them on the floor next to the pricechecker, because of you my local had disconnected the pricechecker today. I know this is the reason because I overheard 2 members of staff talking about doing it yesterday because of the ridiculous amount of Toys and Electricals dumped on the floor nearly taking up the whole isle!!

Because of YOU I will lose out and so will you!

This thread seems to suggest "Health and Beauty, and Clothes, and biscuits aisle"
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back

Yep seen the same happening in my local store and thought disconnecting the machine would help prevent it. I of course do return all goods to exact position it came from.

  • Only joined today and it fun to see how people blow things up. My job is an Electrical & Entertainment Team Leader so I can explain the situation with laptops. Laptops/Computing has recently undergone a range change in preparation for our new style displays which are being rolled out into stores as we speak ( mine gets installed thursday). Everytime an area of Non Food undergoes a range change most of the discontinued stock goes to RTC (Reduced To Clear) and gets a markdown, and after each subsequent range change the item receives a further markdown. Most stores are not good at managing their disc stock so it ends up sitting in bonds or warehouses. The company do not help matters as until recently items such as laptops and digital cameras were not usually greatly discounted meaning customers could buy brand new stock cheaper the old disc, fortunately my store is in an affluent town with a large student population so I have a high turnover of stock and often only left with display models when they are discontinued which I sell with a 10% discount. Other stores sit on their old stock with nowhere to put it (we have lots of strange rules regarding what you can and can't do with disc stock) and customers should be able to purchase the laptops at £44, only if they were £1 or 1p (which has happened recently) should they be raffled off to store for charity. Staff attempting to purchase items at these prices are liable to disciplinary action. In recent months the company has realised it has a problem with discontinued stock and implemented the Summer Sale with all disc stock at 50% or more reductions, this has been carried on instore and all of the cheap stock is discontinued and not current stock so it should not be in main fixture. It will most likely be located on a stores grocery seasonal aisle or a reduced to clear section of the nonfood department. It is not some great con on the public and we haven't been hiding stock. The reductions on personal electrical items are to make way for the new range which is due immediately.

Hi, has anyone came across bargains at Tesco, Dragonsville Ind Estate, Durham. I havn't a local and its quite a long bus journey, would save me the trip,Thanks!!
As said before not many bargains to be had here though I did get 1 of the metal file boxes for £1.75 and a £2 food mini chopper the other day,(still a black file box left yesterday). Also spotted an out of date sel on the twin portable dvd players, which would give £40 DTD meaning you would get them for £59.99.

Don't see the £1/1p thing myself. Whatever it comes up on at the till is the price it is. If it should not be sold to public SEL and items should be removed from the shelf and the potential for sale removed entirely. With the computer systems used in Tesco stores, this should theoretically be easy for a member of staff to do.

It seems SEL hardly ever represent the actual price of an item. If you want to sell them, the way to do it is to have the correct price whenever prices are reduced. Takes less than a minute to print out and change a SEL. Staff in many stores often stand around apparently doing nothing unless a customer is seeking their help! Can't help feeling time could be used more productively and Tesco get more of their £6 odd per hour's worth.
