MSE News: Costs to soar in Airmiles revamp: use points before they devalue

I have just tried (twice) to submit a question via the AirMiles website, but both attempts failed due to an unspecified error. I then tried to 'chat with an agent', to discover there are none currently on-line.
Does anyone know whether it will be possible to get Aer Lingus flights with Avios points?
We often go from Gatwick to Malaga and get 100% free flights with Aer Lingus.
BA do not cover Gatwick to Malaga and Iberia only do it with a stop in Madrid. If we have to go to another UK airport, or have a stop in Madrid, on top of paying £27 each, it doesn't seem worth botherig to continue with AirMiles/Avios.0 -

Airmiles offer flights to/from regional airports today on BA as well as lots of other airlines, this will continue with Avios

Hi Stefanie
Currently airmiles allows me to book Manchester - Munich on Lufthansa for 2,000 miles per seat.
Will I still be able to book seats on Lufthansa and how many "Avios" miles will it cost.
Thanks0 -
Id reckon thats going to be 15000 Avios (1500 miles) + £27.
For regional short haul routes (excluding domestic) its much better IMO.
It must be remembered, the soaring cost of flights will have had a major impact on the viability of free flights via airmiles.0 -

Thanks for the interpretation!
I suppose the questions for me are;
1. are 500 airmiles / 5000 Avios worth £27
2. Unless other non BA airlines, such as Lufthansa are available from Manchester, it's no longer viable unless I want to add connecting flights Via Heathrow (and the time and hassle) to my journey.0 -

Well,given that before it was 2000 Airmiles OR 1500 AND £45 I would say yes....0 -
July or August will be hot pretty much anywhere where you can fly.
You don't need to use up all your points next year, they will just change to Avios and carry on and roll over to the year after and then you can go somewhere again - for europe (anywhere up to Zone 3) you are going to be better off with the new scheme!! Then I will again suggest Morroco - it will be good value then.
I know what you mean with the hotel now... As long as you avoid Barbados and Maldives I think you should be fine:DTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D0 -
nice one fancy kingston or cuba but am not sure if you can fly here with air miles also fancy orlando but not sure if I will get flight in july or august also seen a cheap hotel with good reviews in barbados god this is not as easy as it seems :$
It is not easy via messaging here. You need to go to your Airmiles account and see if you can fly there with Airmiles and do search on availability. It's all there!!0 -
I seriuosly doubt that many people will stop collecting... many was collecting BA miles which worked in similar way until now!
I seriously doubt that you estimate how badly the scheme has been devalued and how people will react when they clock on to this fact.
This is a tactic to close the scheme by making it worthless and uneconomical.
Who wants to save up for a flight to New York which is now free, but will cost £300 (which can go up at any time) in charges, when for an economy traveller you can usually get the same flight for the same price without using your Air Miles. You're looking at £600 for a couple and £1,000 per couple to Australia.
It just isn't worth it, fine if you're locked into collectiing BA miles as a frequent flyer, but for people collecting Tesco vouchers etc. there are better uses for them that make more financial sense.0
